SAFC + Wideband = confused
lol.
took my car for a few runs to tune via the safc2
i found that when i put say.. +10 it actually leaned out the car, and vise versa with -10
so in order to richen the whole rpm map, i had to put all - values..
this is a NA 1986 GXL
any ideas?

I talked to foild about this on AIM already but interestingly enough when I installed my SAFC and got it dyno tuned the first time mine was doing the exact same thing. I set mine up via the how-to on 1300cc.com so I was pretty sure everything was right, plus the tuner looked over it and said everything was fine. He also thought it was weird that it was doing this (corrections worked backwards). The wideband on the dyno was showing the mixtures getting richer with subtracting fuel and leaner with adding, go figure.
But then when I did my emissions test and I subtracted as much fuel as I could where the car still ran, my emissions went down. So I am really confused about it too

lol good way to blow a seal. "your hella lean! add more fuel quick!!!!" *loud explosion* "what happened?" *shrug*
settings are 4cyl Up arrow, 5in 5out(s4) 6in 6out(s5) and flap

I personally don't know how on earth it could do that. The wires for the AFM signal can't exactly be inversed because only one gives an output so if they were backwards it wouldn't give an AFM signal.

xactly.
WTF is goin on here..
since i have a wideband, regaurdless of what it says on the safc2, i am running at 13 afr at open throttle, so im not worried...
but what i am worried for, is people with turbos, who will do the same thing as i did (i e keep "adding" fuel, untill it gets to 20 AFR lol.. and then their engine goes pop.
what im just concerned about, is i would like it to read + values if i am adding, and - if i am decreasing.. for state of mind

Taking the signal the ecu is supposed to read and altering to tell it something different, is lieing to the ecu. I wouldn't trust a system like that when every other signal the ecu gets is correct for a specific load, rpm, ect except one critical component.

On MAF mustangs, when you upgrade the fuel injectors, you change out the MAF to one calibrated to your injector sizing.
This is doing the exact same thing: Calibrating the AFM, only it gives two calibration levels: low and high.
Since no two stock air flow meters give identical resistance loads, I guess swapping out your AFM for one from a different RX-7 is also lying to the ECU?

Example: Swapping out stock AFM's, and nothing else, using a stock ECU on an N/A, gave an AFR variance of 0.3 under load, no other changes.
I could see you saying this about FCD's, but the S-AFC is no more of a lie to the ECU than the stock system.

Why should there be any deviance in a stock system. Obviously things are going to be different for each car, no manufacturer has that nor ever will have that down perfect. An FCD is lieing as well, it tells the ecu that it is at a different boost level, is that not lieing? How is the stock setup lieing to the ecu if that's the way the ecu was programmed to run, and it is getting the signals it is supposed to be getting?
