thanks everyone for the heartfelt wishes....... this was a big blow for me, but fear not, im not gonna give up! as soon as im done here, im gonna go out and hose out the engine bay to get rid of all the extinguisher junk, and see the real damage.... ill post some pics later to show what was actually burnt....
as of right now, i have no clue what started it.... obviously a fuel leak, i just have to figure out where....
and the fire extinguisher was a apc chrome fire extinguisher.... as crazy as it is, my best friend lent it to me 3 days ago saying "here, take this just in case, better safe then sorry" .... he is now my hero!

I remember Robert (fc3s91) mentioning to me that he spoke with you at sevenstock and made you aware of a fuel leak he noticed at your secondary injectors. I guess Guitarjunkie however felt like Robert didnt know what he was talking about and dismissed his observations. Maybe next time he wont.

yeah, i remember... but that leak was fixed.... we pulled the fittings off and re wrapped them in teflon... and the leak was fixed.... dave made it a point for me to get it fixed... i think it was just a freak accident.. nobody is to blame, it just happened...

very sorry to hear the bad news. i also had an engine fire but it was only for about 10 to 20 seconds (which is still a fair amount time for your engine to be burning. )
now i cary 2 fire extinguishers. a chrome apc and a home depo
every failure carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater advantage
good luck

heres the technical aspect... KEEP A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!!!! regardless if everything under your hood is new, old, whatever... it can happen to anyone!

Pipe thread fittings sure, but never with -an type.
The threads are not what seals the connection with -an fittings, it is the 37' angled seats that mate up to one another. This is universal between all brands of fittings. If teflon is used and the seats are not sealed properly (due to imperfections/damage to the mating surfaces etc.), teflon would not do a damn thing to seal them in the long run anyways as the leak would occur at the rear of the threaded cap. Teflon could also get between the mated surfaces during installation and contaminate the seal.
If a race team, or more to the point, an aircraft mechanic saw you use teflon with an -an fitting, you would be reprimanded, if not not worse.

Just saw this thread...I can't imagine how it would feel to put so much work into a project and then have that sinking feeling when you actually see the flames...It's a good thing that you had the fire extinguisher handy and had the piece of mind to use it. (I know that I've emptied mine on two other people's cars, but never had to use it on my own).
The damage doesnt look too bad from the pictures, so once you clean things up I'm sure it will look 100% better.
Hopefully you will also find the cause of the fire in the first place as well.

yeah, i should have explained more.... the leak was coming from the fuel rail end w/ is pipe threaded... all the an fittings do not have teflon on them.... my fault for not giving all the details...

RX-Heven,
Good thing i saw your reply, im currently putting together my fuel system. I have been using teflon tape, but now i will remove it all.
I just wanted to make sure that on AN fittings I am not suposed to use anything? I just need to make sure they are all the way mated together?

AN flares seal on the 37 degree surface by forming a contact ring. There is no need for any kind of sealant on the flare side. HOWEVER on the NPT or straight thread side of the adapters, you will need to use the appropriate sealant. Use Teflon tape for 1/4" and bigger NPT, teflon compound (pipe dope) on 1/8" NPT and smaller, o-rings on ORB fittings, crush washers or dowty seals on straight thread and then whatever is recommended on any other threads.
FWIW, all the major plumbing suppliers (Russel, Earls, Aeromotive, Aeroquip, etc.) have catalogs you can request or download from the website. These catalogs include full assembly and use instructions as well as torque specs, etc.
