S5 VDI and 6 port Activation!!!!

I'm sorry that I had to ask this question again, but every time and I ask and all the posts that I find are full of **** talking and debates and stuff. So someone who know their stuff, please just answer this one question for me, would ya?

For S5 6-port 13B motors, do I need backpressure from the exhaust to activate them or just the airpump?

I'm going true dual and I would like to know if I could just use their 2" presilencer without the backpressure adapter.

For those of you who still dont' get what I'm getting:

RB Road Race header (2 outlets)
(2)RB 12A 2" presilencers
(2)Borla or RS-R muffler (if I can find them), RS-R made 2" mufflers for hondas I think.

It's all actuated by the air pump. Download Chapter 4A (Fuel and Emission Control Systems - Non-Turbo) of the FSM from FC3C.com, it's all shown and explained quite clearly.

Basically, the air pump is always pumping air as the motor is on. Air is allowed to follow a hose to the solenoid rack. At a preset RPM, the ECU send a signal to one of the solenoids to open, allowing the air pressure from the air pump to activate the 6ports. Then, a ~2000 RPM later, another signal is sent to a different solenoid telling it to open, allowing air pressure from the pump to activate the VDI.

When the RPM drops below the determined RPM, the signal is stopped, closing the solenoid, thus cutting off air pressure from the VDI and the 6ports. if you wanted, you could run just headers, but leave the air pump if you still wanted the 6ports and VDI to work.

Hope this helps

The manual or the info?

In the menu on the left hand side go to How-To's/Manuals/89-92 Factory Service Manual and download the chapter called Fuel and Emission Control Systems - Non-Turbo

The 6-port and VDI info is on pages 42-47
