S5 TII USDM to S5 Jspec swap

Ok, my engine pooped out in my 90 TII. I have a S5 Jspec engine on its way. What exactly needs to come off my old motor to make the new (jdm) motor a direct fit? I have heard the upper intakes are different? I want the new JDM motor to be "USDM" before I put it in. Any help would be appreciated.

Just rip the JDM engine down to the block and install all of your USDM manifolds ect on it.

I dont want to do more than I HAVE to. So unless everything but the block is different, then thats not an option. Anyone know what exactly is different and would need to be swapped from my old motor? Thanks

You don't need to change anything unless you need to pass a very close visual inspection for emissions. With S5's the only difference is the lack of ASW solenoid on top of the J-spec UIM and a slightly different ACV. The LIM, turbo and exhaust manifold are the same (use the better of the two turbos). You will need to remove the RHD wiring loom (if it has one) and fit your LHD one.

Thumbs up

There are no emissions here in Kansas. So, I dont have to change anything besides the wiring harness, and it will run OK? Will my ECU be bitchy about the lack of ASW solenoid, or the different ACV? If all I have to do is change the harness, that will KICK MUCH ***!!

The S5 ECU will generate an error code if the AWS and split air solenoid aren't plugged in (the J-spec ACV doesn't have a split air solenoid). If you insert a resistor of the same resistance as the solenoid's coil into the connector the ECU won't know the difference.

Ok, if I want to keep the AWS and split air solenoid, what all would I have to swap over from my old motor? Are these parts located on the UIM? Thanks

You would need the UIM (for the AWS solenoid mount) and the ACV.
