s5 TB problem
ok, I have a 91 rx7. I got the air intake off yesturday and found that the TB is all goofed to high heaven. The 5 butterfly valves I can see are all intact. But! The main butterfly open and closes fine, but the top 4 are a differant story. The 2 inside the TB closest to the manifild work ok, they open after the main starts to open, but the ones close to the air intake stay wide open all the time. Am I missing a throttle line? there isn't one attached at the moment. My car lacks power in 1st and 2nd gear and lower rpm's. I assume i am running lean when the top intakes start to open up since way to much air is comming in. after about 5,500 rpm in 3rd gear the car perks up. Any idea's or anyone in Michigan that could take a look for me? if i had my digicam i would take pics.

the front two stay open all the time until the car is started and they close up a bit to let the car warm up. after the car is warm the front ones open up all the way. they are there so that you cant go wide open on a cold engine b/c that can easily damage a rotary. its a saftey feature. you can take them out and get better airflow but i wouldnt recomend it on a daily driven street car.

That's how it's supposed to work.
Removing the extra two front throttle plates will help with throttle response a little bit, but won't hurt drivability at all. There's no real reason to pull the throttle body off just to remove those plates. Now, if you do the full "throttle body mod" (search), then drivability can be majorly impacted.
