Hey I still got the whole setup. It ruled like you wouldn't believe, and the car is not the same without the screw charger and rotary under the hood. Large street port and wired open 6 ports with 8+ psi in less than half a second at 1500 rpm is something you have to feel to believe, and the fucking sound......

Someday it will probably go into a Gsl-Se when I can afford to play with rotaries again. I learned just about every porting mistake possible by doing it wrong myself. :D

RRTEC 08-23-06 08:02 AM

Eric, is the process of taking the s5's apart the same as the s4's?

Ahh... Well that's good to hear. For a while I thought you had lost your passion. :ky:

Doood... I've actually never taken apart the s4's. However, I would totally assume that the process is the same. :dunno: I've thought about modifying the s4's, but I really just don't see that much potential for 'em.

*ahem*

Dude lives in SWITZERLAND you frikkin' nUB. Might as well just get the euro-tails and tub. :bigthumb:

To the pic-poster, I'm not a huge fan of the painted taillight housing, but the lenses turned out nice. :)

if my 7 was white i would agree with you!

but a red 7 looks best with no black surroundings to the tail lights... in my opinion ;)
it makes it look a little odd...

see your for yourself:

I can understand why you think it looks better, and I may have at one point agreed with you.

One thing that makes it difficult to judge is the fact that you had your emblems painted red as well. Now, in THEORY this should look really good and clean--however, from my experience and looking at your picture, it doesn't... The reason is that you lose a major point of contrast on your back-end. Contrast is very important to seperate certain items and to draw *other* items together. Without contrast in your back-end I think the aesthetics suffer dramatically. Therefore there's nothing to offset your taillights, so all attention is naturally drawn to their specific appearance, which is what you want to AVOID if you have obviously painted something that doesn't look like it should be painted...

My point is: Your taillights would look better if you painted the emblems black. ;)

i'm sorry my friend, i don't agree with you as far as the s5 rear end is concerned! i agreed with you in theory, but... look at the picture i posted! in stock condition the rear end looks completely odd and sluggish. especially the two emblems are far (!!!) too big! and the fact that they are left black makes them appear even bigger. the rear end of the vert is due to its design very fine and slim. so to me it is a sin to pave two large black emblems on it and let the taillights appear 1/3 bigger by leaving the surroundings black... on a red car!!!

but that's of course a matter of taste ;)

Rotary Noob 12-28-06 08:11 AM

Looks bitchin to me! I think it would be really clean on a nice black car...(black is the only real color for a car, everything else is just an excuse...)

Ok, I agree that the emblems are simply a matter of taste. :yum: However, I think that the only way to get around your taillights having that "painted" look, is if you were to mold them in... I think there's a chance that would look really good--especially with the *depth* added to the back-end after doing my modernizing mod. :dunno:

silverrotor 12-28-06 11:22 PM

Nice work Erik. I like your innovative look!

I'd be especially Interested In some form of write up or link for sanding/polish/clearcoat the s5 tails.

Would be a nice touch to do.

ok i agree, but let's leave it there! ;)

as i want my 7 to be a practical car, i'm not a fan of molding things together... once you are forced to dismount that part for some reason, you're going shoot yourself!

the car is jacked at the moment (due to engine rebuild), so i think i'm able to figure out if it looks nice or not in spring, when it's on the road again... :)

Back up. My lights should be here soon and felt like reading this post all over.

What color paint did you use when you painted your car.

Every time I saw them sitting there I remarked to myself about how good the looked *just* like that. I had taken them apart initially to do something like Niteshade, but I needed to see the composition of *all* the parts--inside and out before I knew what my "creative limitations" would be. Next time around I think I'll try something else. Hopefully as unique (if not moreso) that these. ;)

That car was stock Noble White. Paint-code WY. :)

How to polish stock taillights: (trade secrets here ;))

Buy some Maguiers plastic polish... Squirt several "lines" of the polish across the face of the taillight lens. Start at one end and begin rubbing and spreading the polish all over the face of the plastic using a small peice of tee-shirt. Push firmly and evenly and go one section at a time--adding polish and turning the small square of cloth if necessary. It's best to keep the surface fairly "wet" with polish as you rub. Use an "open hand" to spread the force of your fingers evenly across the surface.

Be careful that you don't rub hard in one spot when you're going over the black 'housing' of the taillight--it will eat through to the clear surface underneath.

When you're done polishing after about 5 minutes, use a clean, soft section of terry-cloth towel and begin buffing and wiping the polish off. Do a section at a time, but this won't take too long. When you're done, do a quick wipe-down of the entire taillight surface, and wa-la! Instant factory shine.

If you have BAD surface scratches, you can wetsand using ANY grit above P600 to start with--working your way up to 2000 grit. Work under a sink-faucet or shower-head to insure maximum water coverage while you are sanding. There's nothing to be intimidated about while sanding a clear lense. If you get paranoid at how cloudy the lens is getting after sanding--just dribble some water on the surface and understand that, that's what it's going to look like after they're finished. :) When you're done, use the Maguiers polish like I mentioned--and you're good to go.

ive heard nothing but good things about ericsevens taillight modding, hey eric, when i get the cash together im going to send you my tail lights and run s4's in the mean time. ive always wanted to know if anyone has figured out a way to make the lights look like the knightsport 7 (or the g35 lights). i personally love that look, but i guess to each his own right?

peace
