S5 factory chin splitter
Hi all,
I just got my '89 T2 over the weekend and I'm working on making it 'mine' now that it's finally home. I flew to go get it and drove it back 1300 miles without a hitch. Way to go Mazda!
It had an Erbuni front dam on it that was thrashed so I pulled it off to find the entire front end intact save for the front splitter which had been removed.
Looking at the parts fische, I see two different splitters available for the car. A one-piece deal and a three piece deal. Which one is correct for a series 5 turbo? That said, which one looks better?
After searching the forums I found a lot of posts suggesting the factory splitter is both expensive and unobtanium, so no need to re-iterate this.
Can anyone post pictures of their factory S5 splitter for me?
Thanks!
Here's a pic of the car: The wheels have got to go!

The 3-piece splitter is from the '86-88 sport aero package, BTW.
The lip spoilers *are* still available new - Mazdacomp was listing them for like $200 and change. They're impossible to find used, though - 80% of the '89-91 TurboII's I've seen didn't have the lip spoiler (was torn off) and the 20% with 'em were BADLY damaged and about to fall off. In other words, you'll have to buy it new, buy a Corksport lip spoiler, or get an aftermarket nose - you won't be able to find one used.

Yo,
I want to get one for my GTUs, do you have the Mazda part number? I was told they come painted in the factory colors...but that probably is wrong.
Dale, when you say Corksport do you mean their knockoff Mazdaspeed front lip?
I've also was looking at the MikeL/Demonspeed splitters...but will probably pass on them until I see one in person...or good pics of one on an S5.

According to Mazdacomp, they come in white, black, and red pre-painted. I don' t have a part number, though.
Yeah, the knockoff Mazdaspeed lip spoiler - it looks killer, but I don' t know if anyone has one, or what the quality is like.
Mike's lip spoiler for the '89-91's will probably be done quite soon, and should look REALLY good, not to mention being top quality and reasonably priced. That's probably the way to go. IMHO I'm not keen on the Demonspeed deal - there's been too many problems with delivery and the like. That's just not how you do business.

Yo,
Yeah, I was thinking about the MikeL one but he was just a little rude with me in a PM, so I don't think I'll give him any business.
Dale, when you say MazdaComp, were talking Mazda Competition, right?

Hey guys, thanks for the quick reply.
Here's what I see in the fische:
One piece lip:
Dam, Air-Skirt
Turbo (W/Aero parts kit)
FC17-51-9H0A
PZ Brilliant Black
SQ Blaze Red
UC Crystal White
WY Noble White
1F Winning Silver M.
3G Shadow Silver Metallic (!)
5D Harbor Blue
6H Mellow Burgandy
Now for the three piece set (shown in dashed outline)
Dam(C), air-skirt
FC01-51-9J1A
Skirt(R), front air dam
FC01-51-9K1A
Skirt(L), front air dam
FC01-51-9L1A
The three piece set seems to wrap around the body at the wheel opening (I like) while the once piece unit seems to just bolt on from below.

Yo,
Thanks inboost!! I actually called Mazda Competition and talked with Scott, he hooked me up with the part number.

I told him that I prefer to not deal with anyone that writes the non-word "Yo" as the greeting in a message to me. He also didn't state his name.
I'm sorry but, I can choose with whom I will do business.
Write back to me! Please, include a greeting such as "Greetings", "Hello" or, "Mike".
Please end your message with something like:
"Thanks, [your name]"

The world needs more people like you Mike.
D00D l3t m3 g3t one of those l33t lip spoilers you be having y0!
That crap makes me sick, if there is one thing I can't stand its a sideways visor wearing DJ Jazzy Trevor that has no semblance of punctuation or spelling. I mean it doesn't have to be perfect people, but come on a comma and a period here and there never hurt anyone!

Looks like Mike just lost another potential customer.
Kevin's right, that's not how you do business.
Kevin, talk to Chris Wire, he's on the forum, usually in the race car tech area. he has a setup for the 89-91 that a lot of the racers in florida use.

Yo,
I always start my messages with "Yo." *shrug*
It's all a moot point, I've already ordered the S5 TII lip from a local Mazda dealer.
But in retrospect, I probably would NOT have bought a MikeL splitter because of the way he responded to my PM. I'm an English major, I don't need grammar lessons when informally asking about a rear wing he was thinking of copying.

I emailed a vendor on Saturday. I informed him of a broken link that should have lead me to the item that I wanted to order from him. I wanted so badly to deal with that particular vendor that I looked around on his server for the correct page. I found the page.
In my email on Saturday, I informed the vendor of the broken link and provided the correct link. His web site has yet to be updated.
I also informed the vendor that I intended to order two items from him, today, that total about $130.
Since the link has not been fixed and, I have not been contacted to tell me if those items are in stock or not, I will order elsewhere later today, unless contacted by this vendor in the next few hours. Please Mr. Vendor, don't write YO.
AND..., I ordered from this same vendor on 08/30/02. The item was not shipped until 09/06/02. No explanation was given to me about the delay. No contact at all! I still have not recieved the item, although I do have a tracking number and the part is on the way.
Now, THAT's no way to do business.

RarestRX,
So which one did you order and how much will it cost to have it shipped? I'm ready to do the same thing, but I really want to clear up which splitter is supposed to be on what car.
Obviously the part list in the fische suggests that the one-piece splitter is for the turbo. However, the three piece one seems like it would go on better considering the staggered profile on the bottom of the bumper cover.
Would anyone with a series 5 car be willing to take a photo like the one above with a factory splitter in place?
Thanks!

Yo,
Mike, I'm not getting into a flamewar with you. Noting the amount of effort you are putting in your replies, as well as your reply to my PM, it appears to me you have some anger management issues. Relax...you'll live longer.

Thanks for the clarification MikeL. Do you have a splitter for my car in stock? If I remember correctly it was only just recently that you started making the series 5 splitters and there are multiple versions (with or without a cut of some-sort). If you would be so kind to give me a brief run-down on what you offer I'd appreciate it.
My only other concern is how adversly ground clearance is affected by moving the lip's outer edge forward on the car. I have a really bad driveway apron that likes to eat front bodywork!

Yo,
Inboost, Mazdacomp sells the one piece for 230ish, but you need be a member of their racing program. See their site for details. I was quoted $319.88 from my dealer. I haggled and got it down from that.

inboost, I can't really talk about my stuff here because I don't give the forum any advertising money.
I'll contact them later today to see if $50 will get me a few months of being able to answer questions here.

RarestRX, thanks for sharing the inside line on these. Let me know when it shows up and what your opinion of it is. I'd also be curious to hear about the install. MY current nose does seem to have speed nuts ready for such an install, but you never know what the body shop guys removed/lost when the front dam was pasted on.
The factory fog lights were wrapped in masking tape and left in place under the spoiler! Ugh, those guys...
MikeL, I understand. I don't want to get you in trouble.
