Look into the archives. I did it to. All you have to do is mess around with all the wires on the connections on the back of the gauge cluster.

you have to rewire your cluster harness...takes about 15 minutes if you know what you're doing. the archives and wiring diagrams will give you all the info you need. heres a pic of the harness

if this was done, would the tach still read properly, even know the s4 tach only reads to 8k?

Yes.

But I am not sure why anyone would want to do this, the S5 tach and speedo are smaller than S4 ones, and the S5 oil pressure and water temp gauges are not as accurate as the S4 ones.

I don't know about you guys but Circle gauges for me look a 100 percent better than 1/4 circle. The rpm gauge is also different reading at 9 K and s4 reading a 8 k but that really has nothing to do with anything.

So, looking at the white plug,

Pin A = green/red
Pin B = blank
Pin C = Blue
Pin D = smaller Black
Pin E = Red/green
Pin F = black/white
Pin G = Grn/white
Pin H = Blank
Pin I = Brwn/white
Pin J = Brown
Pin K = Yel/Blk
Pin L = Blk/Yellow

Black Plug:

Pin A = larger Black
Pin B = small Red/White
Pin C = Yellow/Red
Pin D = Blank
Pin E = Blank
Pin F = Yellow/White
Pin G = Blank
Pin H = Blank
Pin I = Yellow/Blue
Pin J = Grn/Black
Pin K = Large Red/White
Pin L = Tan/green

But the only thing i cant figure out is what pin is a,b,c,ect..

quit taking off your needles on your gauges!

Let me guess, you took them off to paint them?

tsk tsk tsk, learn your lesson?

Just go to the junk yard, find an S4 grab the gauges, plug and play. shouldnt cost much. or find someone parting out an S4. again, it shouldnt cost much.

ok well i finally got the chance to do the swap and everything went ok but then i heard aloud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and i couldn't figure why it was doing it. My water temp gauge doesn't work for i don't know what reason i know its hooked up but it just doesn't read anything the sensor is new. Also the Gas gauge reads half tank as empty but when i reconnect the s4 cluster it reads fine

you didn't get the wires/pins moved correctly. Remember you are using a S4 gauge cluster harness and re-pinning it... not the S5 harness

You don't have the pins moved correctly or you used the wrong harness. Not getting why you are not understanding that. Are you expecting someone else to say, oh yeah, check the fuse?

That pin re-do has been done about 100 times (probably I personally have done 25) and never had a problem using a S4 harness, re-pinned to a S5 cluster.

So either you are using the wrong harness, or you moved the pins wrong.

You did move the pins in the round plugs... right? You didn't move the pins in the rectangular plug... right? Are you 1000% positive that this harness (that you moved the pins in) is not the same harness that you used in your S5 car???

Somewhat off-topic but,

Mark, would you be able to transplant the internals of the S4 water temp and oil pressure gauge into the S5 units? Kinda like linearizing the FD water temp gauge, so to speak. Would you have to swap in the S4 gauge internals to an S5 gauge face or would you have to modify the internals of the S5 gauge?

I'm just thinking of ideas to make the stock S5 gauges functional since, from an aesthetic view, I hate having redudant gauges and I think the S5 gauges look better than the S4 ones.
