The easiest way to tell is that the s5 doesn't have a place for the EGR valve on the intermediate housing. Also, the s5 has a hole for the knock sensor above the trailing plug as detailed here: http://www.banzai-racing.com/faq_housings_ID.htm

S4 will have a mechanical OMP and the S5 will have an electrical OMP...
The water pump housing where the neck bolts to are different. The S4 has to holes to bolt the neck while the S5 has 3 holes.

S4 J-specs also don't have EGR.
S5 TIIs don't have the twin scroll actuator.
The wastegate arm is bent.
The turbo flange looks like a standard T4 flange instead of the proprietary S4 flange.
The intake manifold runners are bigger then S4.
Electrical metering oil pump.
Pulsation damper integrated into fuel rail. Fuel rails are steel tubes instead of aluminum castings.
Dual TPS.
Off the top of my head that's all I can think of...

I dunno, but I assume its with everything on it. I'm almost certain the shortblock weighs around 200 pounds and I can pick up the tranny with no problems so I don't think the tranny weighs 150 pounds.

There's only one knock sensor. On S4's it's on the centre plate under the oil filler, and on S5's it's above the trailing plug on the front rotor housing. This is the easiest way to identify a nude block (i.e. no accessories).
