since you went through this whole procedure, can you draw a diagram on what was moved to what?

I'm trying to replace a S4 switch that appears to have gone bad with a S5 switch.

I got the same diagram as on the original post, and the S5 diagram seems to be the same as the S4 diagram, which doesn't make sense to me.

using the diagrams from the S4 and S5 wiring diagrams I gathered info on what each pin on the S4, S5 turn signal switches should do.....

and yet they look exactly the same.

can someone explain why they are the same on the diagram, yet everyone fries stuff when they try plugging it in?

This picture is for converting a S4 plug to work with a S5 switch, so I am assuming that it should reverse just fine.

How can it reverse just fine?
the only thing that is the same is B/R 12v(common).

are you talking about the diagrams I posted or the one from Icemark?
I do not know where Icemark got his pinouts from, and I cannot find any more S5 diagrams.

on mine, the S4/S5 diagrams appear to have been printed differently, one with harness view, and the other, connector view.

that seems consistent across all the diagrams, with which i confirmed all wiper functions and headlight switch functions were the same, and the s5 switches plugged in directly and worked on my s4 car/harness with no issues.
(they also bolted into my s4 cluster hood as well, contrary to some info i found on this forum before)
