S4 / S5 Transmission mount question...

I just bought a 90 GTU with a bad transmission. I ordered a 87 transmission thinking it's the same thing to replace.

Here's a pic of my transmission with the "Y" mount.

Here's a pic of the 87 transmission I got today.

You can see they're quite different. But according to "RX7World.com" and "Madzatrix.com" http://www.mazdatrix.com/g3.htm 86-92 have the "Y" mount.

So did the guy send me a wrong transmission or both the sites are wrong?

I've also searched RX7club.com forum before I posted and also check the archives. http://www.mazdatrix.com/g3.htm

Also it seems like I am missing the "Crossmember" that seems to bolt under my "y" mount. Does anyone have a pic of what it looks like installed on a car?

Thanks for all you help!

ok, what you need to do is take off those 4 bolts that's holding the shaft and the rubber mounts and take put that onto your tranny you just got. and yes, you are missing the actual tranny mount that bolts up to the chassis.

edit, NOW i see what you're saying.

you must need an S4 y section to mate up with an S4 tranny. see those two bolt locations? on my spare S4 tranny, thats where the y mount bolts onto.

but you're still missing that mount.

i have an extra one if you need it.

Well... The chassis mount is missing when I got the car. I thought something was missing when I first looked at it. The problem with the tranny was that somehow the yoke on the dive shaft snapped and cracked part of the shifting housing. And I'm starting to think that the missing chassis mount was the cause for the driveshaft to fail.

ok i just did a s4 swap in my s5 turbo ran into the same problem because belive it or not the mounts to the chassie are a little different use the upper portion for the s4 and the lower for the s5 you will need to get 4 big washer and open the mounting holes in the lower just a little bit each follow these in structions and should bolt up in less then five minuntes start to finish took me one hour switching stuff around till i saw what was the problem and made the right adjustments to the holes and bolted right up. also for you might want to get some poly mounts while you got it out chris at banzai racing has them for $45 shipped

yea i know i had chris in stall poly engine mounts and got a call from him before he even released the tranny mounts and got one of the first sets had to wait 2 months before i got my car on the road again all the salt they put down up here. witch for less the 200 he could also do the motor mounts and have a nice stiff drive line. i just saw some other places and motor mounts alone their selling for ove twice what chris is making them 4 i couldn't belive it
