FL S4 N/A to S5 Turbo swap

I know this has been covered a million times but I just want to make sure I have everything right.

I have a 87 N/A that I've been wanting to swap to a turbo. I know it would be easier to keep it in the series but I'm getting a really good deal on a low miles S5 T2 motor.

So from what I understand these are the parts I need
-S4 T2 ECU
-S4 N/A harness
-S4(?) T2 MAF

I read in another thread that that I would need a S4 T2 front cover because the S5 uses electronic OMP and S4 mechanical. I've always premixed anyway so if I'm not going to use the OMP is the S5 okay?

I also saw something about needing S4 T2 sensors but it didn't see what sensors? Is it the TPS and stuff like that?

Fuel injectors? Am I going to need T2 or atleast something bigger then the stock N/As?

I've done a lot of research but I've seen mixed information and want to make sure I'm getting all the right parts.

Thanks for any help in advance.

You can use the S5 keg,and use the manifold, turbo, etc.
s4 AFM,boost sensor.APS
you will have to change the throttle body and TPS.
You will need the s4 N/A harness.
you will need s4 TII or Equivalent Injectors(the s5 injectors have an oval plug.S4 have square type plug connection.)
Since you are gonna Premix you can take the s5 OMP off and make a block off plate.
You will need either an S4 alternator OR a Connector to mate with the s5 alternator.
aside from that, you are in Not bad shape..
it is a lot easier than Finding an S4 TII engine.

I have an s4 t2 AFM, I will get the boost sensor. What is the APS? I was told I can use my s4 na TPS. Is that true or I need s4 t2? So my s4 na harness will work? Misterstyx said yes MTRfc said I need s5? I got s5 t2 injectors, can I make them work? Will the s4 na alternater work or I need t2? So many questions... I have the motor now by the way.

Thanks for all the help guys. Is that sarcasm at the end misterstyx?

Now that I've had a chance to look at it I'm guessing I'm going to need an s5 harness because all the clips are diffrent?

S4s and S5s are practically two different cars when it comes to wiring. You should just use the S5 keg, and gather S4 TII electronics to make it easy on you. Mixing and matching wiring harnesses is possible, but it's also a major hassle. You had better get to know the S4 and S5 wiring diagrams like the back of your hand. It is much easier to just use the S5 keg, and convert electronics to S4 TII. Take a look at these links and read the turbo swap links in the FAQ.

What would be mismatched? Doesn't everything on the engine harness go to the engine? So if I have the s5 harness won't it all match up and plug in? And it will plug into the s4 t2 ecu right? Also I don't have power steering or a/c if thats one of the things the harness plugs into.

Thanks again for the help guys. I'm seeing this is going to be quite the project, but I'm stoked to learn about all of it. I don't really know anything about wiring or turbos and this is one hell of a way to learn.

What would be mismatched? Every connection to the rest of the harnesses. The emissions (EM) harness (what you're incorrectly calling the engine harness) connects to more than just the ECU and engine. It connects to the front harness, which wraps around half to car. And then the front harness also has to connect directly to the ECU. You can't plug an S4 front harness into an S5 ECU because 1) the plug isn't the right shape 2) the wires are not in the same order.

Wow this is going to be a lot of work. Thanks for the links rotaryrocket they were very helpful now I atleast understand all the harnesses. So from what I understand I'm going to need
-s4 t2 TB with TPS
-s4 t2 wiring harness with fuel injectors
-s4 t2 ecu(wich I have)
-s4 t2 AFM(wich I have)
-s5 t2 front cover and block off OMP
Now am I going to need a s4 t2 water pump, water pump housing, and fan or will my s4 n/a work?

Also, I don't think it matters to much with the swap, but apparently the ecu I got is chiped. I don't know if this helps or hurts anything, from what I read about them it doesn't seem to do much for me with the swap. I'll find out what kind of chip it is tomorrow.

In the process of tearing everything off my old motor. The hard vacume lines that all come together and plug into the harness- Do I put these on the t2 motor? They will mount on but how do I know where all the lines go because they obviously aren't all going to go to the same place.

why would you keep an S5 front cover? Use a 2x4 to keep the clutch pedal to the floor(very important.. If the motor is already out of the car just set the motor vertically on the flywheel)

- take off S5 water pump, housing and crank pulley
- use an impact to remove the front eccentric shaft bolt
- remove OMP lines from electric S5 OMP
- Pull off S5 Front cover
(do the same process on your old S4 motor)
- re-install the S4 front cover onto the S5 shortblock
- you HAVE to use the S4 TII water pump housing, S4 and S5 water pump housings can only be used on the same series front cover, The TII housing has a nipple for the Coolant return from the turbo.
- install manual S4 OMP, reconnect OMP lines
- re-use the metal rod that connects the OMP with the S4 TII throttle body
- install belts....

Done, and for that little work you will have a working OMP, and not have to rely on pre-mix

My old motor is n/a so the front cover won't work on the s5 t2 will it? Besides, I really don't mind premixing. I've been doing for the past year and half since I got my 7 and 5 years atleast on my dirt bike so I'm so use to it that it would be weird not to premix. And what about the vacume lines? And my OMP doesn't work on the old motor so I doubt it would work on the new one! lol. Thanks for the info though.

Well I got the motor out. As far as vacume lines go. I heard most of them are for emissions and I can just plug them?

I figure since the motor's out I'm just going to take everything out of the engine bay and paint it satin black. Theres a lot of peeling paint and surface rust from break fluid leaking on it so I'm just going to paint the whole. thing.
