In the process of giving my S4 a little TLC.

RX7's have way too much wires for a car, anyone ever put a painless harness in one of these things.

Having some problems getting this to work. There was a slight collision, I pounded the dent out with a hammer, just gotta tweek everything just right so it lines up.

Another problem I am faced with since I have a Haltech E6X, hopfully soon upgrade to an E8, is that all my gauges dont work.
Easy fix right? Guess again, try to find a 3 3/8 hole saw...

Reusing some gauges from my DSM for mock up purposes.

Thats about it for now. Still waiting on my hole saw so I can finish my cluster. S and J discount tools is uasually very good, but as of late the service has gotten worse, so buyer beware.
Trying to get my suspension powdercoated, but I have been sending countless hours trying to fix an oil leek on my dads pickup truck. Stupid american ****

Wow, seeing this makes me want to paint the engine bay while I have the engine out. It looks good man. What's that greddy device attached to the other greddy turbo timer?

I think you're going to end up regretting your paint choice...not so much the color (although white is hard to keep clean) but the type.
The reason that "flat" paints are flat is because they don't "skin up" (which is where the gloss comes from)...this leaves them unprotected, porous and easily marred.

That paint will absorb every drop of oil that hits it, along with just about everything else.
Even stuff like PurplePower is going to leave stains.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

yes i get a hard on for road signs, you aint see 10% of my collection yet.

should have used gloss paint, but this is a cheapo build. no money into anything that cant be switched to a cleaner chassis.

does anyone know about painless wiring race car harness into an fc?

cheers

I looked into thier harnesses about a year ago and they didnt have anything for the fc.

They do have generic simple circuit harnesses though for lights and simple stuff.

I did alot of wiring the old fshioned way and it turned out pretty nice.

looks great. however, the flat white is not a good choice. flat paint is very prone to absorbing foreign substances and in this case any oil or fingerprints, dirt, rust, water spots will quickly ruin your hard work and nice looking engine bay..a gloss white would have been an excellent choice. also, when painting over bare metal, an etching primer is reccomended. i have never been happier with painting bare metal parts than after i started using etching primer.

I wondered why you let that pass, it's not like flat Rustoleum is any cheaper than gloss.

you guys are right, I fucked that one up. Its too late now. I will keep a can of flat white in the back seat for touch ups.

Its next to impossible to get a factory like paint job. I would have loved to have the whole car powdercoated, but that aint going to happan.

That EGT is worthless for tuning. The only thing it's good for is telling you the peak temperature of your exhaust. It reacts too slow to give any useful information. Digital ones are nice.

I think he's keeping that one around for reference values when he's racing. I know he has a wideband O2 that is integrated with the Haltech E8 that he's going to wire up.

On the paint... meh. It's better than it was, and as he said, its no prize winning chassis. I hope he beats the hell out the car and gets some fun out of it!!

When you take the time to use an etching primer followed by a good quality base/clear it's something to enjoy for a long time. This is from my Vert resto project:

FSM says that 4 wire thing is your "back up light and 5th switch service." whatever the latter is i dont feel like digging. Says check section f2 or t of the fsm.. but my uneducated guess would be the fnuter valve switch.

Close, but no bagel for you.
The 5th gear switch deactivates the "shift up" light from coming on as you approach redline...you know, since there isn't another gear to shift into.

The fnuter valve is activated by blinker fluid pressure.

script, that paint job looks amazing. Did you find a way to remove the main chassis harness, the one that heads to the drivers kick panel?

This is my first rx7, and if I dont kill myself driving it, in a few years I will seek out a clean FC chassis, and I mean clean, no rust at all, good paint. I bet they are getting hard to find.

I would like to try to make my first roll cage on this car, but thats way down the road. That would require some research. Getting involved in a grass roots rx-7 racing group would be kick ***, I would have to find out what the mininum requirements would be for saftey equipment.

I really want to work in the RX today, but I have to throw an oil pan in my dads cummins diesel, and take care of some **** around the house. I dont think I am going to get my **** to the powder coater today.

cheers

alright, I guess this thread is not really about a paint job anymore. Its turning into a little bit of everything, general bullshit you could say.
Here are pics of the days work.

are those wires just run through the floor without grommets?? man o man...

Looks like the underbody components could use a little sandblasting and painting.

Looks like you're getting this stuff done in a hurry, can't wait to watch you kick the ****** sideways.

Well well, I had a 3 day weekend and got a fair amount done. I left off with the removal of the rear subframe and all its components. Saturday was spend taking the suspension apart and removing all the old bushings, what a horrible job. Those are the kind of jobs that make working on cars no fun, but the reassembly process is amazing because you witness the transformation from bad to good.
Enough blabber, here are a few pics of the **** taken apart and blasted.

By the end of the week hopfully the parts will be back from the powdercoater and ready for reassembly. I have finally got my 3 3/8 hole saw so work can continue on my custom gauge cluster.
