RX7 vs WRX

Hey mods, sorry if this is the wrong section didnt know where it should fit. So my friend has a 2003 WRX and has been talking about once my car is done hes going to lay the smackdown on me. So his mods are as, HKS Hi power catback, downpipe which I dont know which brand, perrin intake, perrin front mount, 20g turbo, 720cc injectors and a cobb dyno tune. He dynod at 330whp. My RX7 is going to have a, Garret Airesearch .94 a/r hotside, .60 a/r cold side turbo, 3" custom turbo-back exhaust, hks intake, big front mount, 720cc primaries 1600cc secondaries, haltech e6k.

I was just wondering what people might think of the outcome of this race. I know a lot of it is banking on how good of a tune I have. I am going to Mac Autosports for the dyno tune. Theres a guy Nick there that has a third gen and really sounds like he knows his sh*t. Thanks for any input. I think I am going to walk away from him seeing as I am hoping for more horsepower and will weigh about 1000lbs less.

Yah I was surprised he didnt put down a lot more hes at 18psi with all the good mods. Im sure we will race from a dig and a roll. I know this is a lot different then my last one, but I had a 1986 N/A and I could get it out of the hole really good.

I would like those who have replied to this thread to please tell me what kind of turbo this is, because I have no clue.

I think that one or both of you will wreck your car.

Why, does your friend weigh 700 lbs more than you?

lol yeah high boost is a whole different story for piston engines. Most of the 4G63 guys run 35psi+.

You can race him from a dig as long as you race up to 140mph+ But yeah please list the specs of the turbo or post a pic of it. It might take you some time to get the quirks worked out in the car since you just put a whole bunch of parts on it (from questionable suppliers) so give yourself some time.

+1 a 2003 WRX weights about 3100 lbs...

I have no idea what that turbo is, but it depends on how much psi you'll be running and weather or not your friends transmission blows up before the race... (quite possible...)

The Subaru is a tank, I know I own one. It actually weighs 4050lbs just checked my tag. So the RX7 would actually weigh around 1200lbs less even with around equal weight drivers. With your mods you should be able to take him pretty easy on a roll. The dig may be a different story depending on if he can even launch the awd car right. I'd like to know the outcome eather way.

LoL.... i have a 2002 WRX wagon....

Why does your car way 4200 lbs? LoL. I had mine weighed down at the station, it was 3184 lbs.

Also, are you talking about drag racing? I have raced both our WRX and my N/A RX-7 down at the track and I stomp w/ my RX-7. In AutoX..... LoL.

Street racing is not accurate. Someone will start before someone else...... hmmm, i won't go through all the excuses, if you want a list of excuses, hit up the honda forum.... LoL.

You list a ton of mods, but what will this put you at in terms of HP? Torque? I know my 02 WRX beats a majority of T2's on the drags. 20 psi blousch evo3 16. properly tuned.....

So... take it to the drags.

Chances are good that if you are the same HP, you will win. WRX is a 4 door car made for rally. If from a dig, spool time, and traction are going to make a big difference. Though, consider racing cars in your class. A medium sized 4 dr. family car is in a difference class then a small sports car. Race some boosted S200's or boosted Miatas.

At the track. Make it official if your as fast as you think.

lol yeah I think he mistakenly looked at his gross vehicle weight listed in on the sticker in his door jamb.

Your friend has a nice turbo setup but if he only has a tune for 18psi you will probably wax him gvien that you at least have a mid sized turbo and a maxed out setup.

IDK much about this turbo as I dont have it yet. It looks big from pics I have seen though. I am hoping for mid 300s seeing as I dont have any portwork done. I was under the impression a wrd weighs 3200lbs so I am sorry fir saying 1000lbs. I am aiming for 2300lbs out of my car, :-/. As for street racing, I am against it, I did it when I was younger (Im only 20 now, so who knows what yougner is to a 20 year old). I think its dumb and unsafe but he wont go to our track, I think hes scared to run a high 14 lol. I am hoping to have a good port job and 3mm apex seals next summer so I can run higher boost levels and be over the 400hp mark.

If he beats me its all good, just would like to get the win since hes talking crap on my 21 year old car. If he does I will take him to a auto-x event and show him dow to drive though. His car really doesnt run THAt great. I have a 2005 dodge ram rumlbe bee with bolt ons and he only pulls like 5 lengths on me from a roll when we dick around. My truck G-Teched at a 15.3 at a slight downgrade so I would guess hes mid 14s which isnt THAT fast but its fairly respectable. We are at a mile high elevation so pretty much add a second so mid to high 13s at sea level.

As for hp/tq numbers I really dont know what to aim for. I hate aiming high and hitting low. I would be happy with mid 300hp and low 300tqs out of my setup. I know I cant hope for much in stock porting. I think I have a very good solid setup that will be open for future engine mods down the road though. I also didnt mention I have done a few weight shaving mods and will have suspension work done. He has 2 10s in a big box also so +150lbs I would say in that setup.

wrx 2003 with 20g and all the right mods... he should be higher than 330whp...

i own an 09wrx and an FD (yeah i know 09 and 03 are huge differences) but you should be able to have him. Id say so but thats if you guys plan on going 90-120.... this is going to be done on a closed course i hope yeah?

i think what would be more intersting, would be how you guys do on an autocross track..

Yah I thought for sure he would be higher. This is on pump gas and the tuner said here in wyoming we have crappy gas so he did a pretty safe tune. I believe he dynod at 364 and then retuned it for a lot safer. I am trying to encourage a legal race but we will see. Theres only one track near us, its about a hour away and theres some local streets that are in better shape.

We don't know anything about this WRX's alleged dyno numbers. We don't know what dyno it was done on, what the ambient conditions were, and what the altitude was. Wyoming, remember?

any race from a dig will require the 7 to get into 3rd before it can pull ahead. 1/8 mile and 0-60 style stoplight street racing will likely go to the WRX.

race him from like a 45 roll or so... make sure you atleast have some decent tires and have broken in your cars new mods before you decide to *** it out....

18psi isnt that big of a deal... im sure he will lag alot between shifts...

i suggest getting a boost controller and turning it up right before the race.. you should walk him with ease...

His turbo is a little laggy. Its not terrible but it doesnt even start to spool til like 3000 rpm and is about full boost by 4000. Im sorry I cannot provide more about the dyno. I dont know for sure the hp its putting down because he claims they didnt give him a dyno slip. It was at a mile high altitude on probably a 70 degree day if I had to guess.

I'd be weary of the auto-x... it'll entirely depend on what tires you run and what kind of suspension setups you both have. Imprezas are no slouches, there are a few around here than demolish my FC in auto-x. There is also no way your rx-7 is going to be anywhere close to 2300 lbs.

Well I had a n/a sport base model power nothing and the guy I got it from said he had it weighing 24## and I removed all the carpet, stock exhaust replaced with light single exit exhaust and some other things. I would like to think it weighed around 2300. I have a GXL with a TII swap so I would imagine a couple hundred pounds more. Is 2500 a better weight goal?

I have had a few rx7s, a wrx, and currently a sti. The wrx is not going to run more than low 12s on the stock 2.0 block in the q mile with those mods.

If he does any more mods on that 2.0 block his car is going to spin a bering any way then you can laugh your *** off because he is modding that car all wrong and wont be able to drive it.

Also for the q mile times that is for being in Biloxi MS where it is so humid you walk outside and get soaked after 5 min.

Well you gotta remember how high we are. We have to add a full second pretty much up here. so a 14.1 here would be close to a 13.2 at sea level is what I have always been told. His clutch is slipping pretty bad also, not to say mine wont once I get it started. I guess we will just have to wait and see. When/If this race ever goes down I will raise this dead thread and let everyone know the results. Thanks

Irony is that I used to try and shed weight like crazy.

After a bit a bit I started to add more. Bringing my car up like 100lbs because little things like carpet and other amenities aren't all that bad.

I'd just go for a reliable HP number. You won't gain **** taking out the carpet but a few pounds and gain a headache.
