Cons: Not unique, has arguably worse handling (though if you do suspension mods to both they will be almost equal - and honestly a fwd car tends to perform better in autox until you find a really good driver). You haven't mentioned a rotary engine once - only reason you would want to be NA RX-7 is if you love the platform AND the engine. I have a rotary half block in my room, and 8 years ago my brother had a friend with an RX-7 with a half block in his college dorm.
Other: Don't buy a T2 for your first car, or in my oppinion as your daily driver - you will inevitably get in accidents at some time in your life and if you reduce the chances by 2 it will make twice as nice and quick of a classic car. You should also probably reconsider the FD, I have made up my mind that I'm skipping over it due to its short engine life, etc and an RX-8 will soon be in the same price range (assuming mazda keeps making them).
I am almost 20, my first car was a dodge dakota which was involved in two highschool related accidents that likely would have totaled an RX-7. I liked the FD body style and considered a rotary engine in my jet ski before I bought a cheap RX-7 and fixed it up soon after turning 18 - I then sold it and bought a little bit nicer series 5. I do not daily drive my RX-7. I autocross and visit a small track for racing experience.
I do not have my car at college, but wish that I had a car at college. My car is in the condition that I don't want the original paint to be exposed to the elements. Also, being able to carry more than one of my friends would be ideal and has me searching for a daily driver.
Hope that helps.

This Rx-7 is my first car and I love it to death. It makes my moms 04 slushstang look bad. EVERYBODY stares and it sounds, drives, looks, and feels awesome. Similar to prelude on drag, and WAY beyond prelude on turns. i've always hated all hondas cept the S2K and NSX because of FWD. Think about it, with a 7 you can get 2 seats, rear-wheel drive, and 49.8/50.2 weight distribution w/ rearsteer. whatelse could you ask for in a car other than more power? want more power? Get an S5 TII and put a RB exhaust on it, the full system adds 59hp. Problem solved. Have fun with your Prelude.

All the 7's win hands down...even though my gsr was fast as hell (faster than the n/a's) the rear wheel drive is so much more fun and rewarding to drive...thats my $.02

I'm sorry if I skimmed some threads to fast.
My DD is a 1998 Honda Prelude. Purchased in '99 with 25k. Great car! 27 MPG avg. No issues exept having to do the 2nd timing belt replacement (with water pump, balancer belt, and front seal). Now has 168k. I drove my car relatively hard, but didn't need a cluth till 140k. Brakes at the same time.
No Camaro, Firebird, Or Mustang can hang with me on a twisty (2nd, 3rd, intermnittent 4th). She is not a drag car. Oh, by the way, it is a H22-A4.
My project and passion car is my 7.
Just thought I'd add my .02.

F/R weight distribution on the USA spec S4 car is 50.2/48.8 (page 80 of RX-7 The New Generation Sports Car/ Jack Yamaguchi/ St Martin's Press-First edition printing 1985)
And the vert had 51.4/48.6 (according to Car & Driver Jan 1988).

And it's not 50.2/48.8 because that's not a possible number... Add 50.2 to 48.8 and it comes out to 99... Now add 50.2 to 49.8 and it's 100...
Once again, the weight distribution is 50.2/49.8 for the record...

You should be able to get a TII for around TII, S5 is gonna be hard, but s4 you could find. Once you feel the turbo rotary, you will be satisfied. A prelude can only get you so far. A rx-7 can get some major power and its unique because of it having a rotary engine and besides it being pretty rare. Not many people have em. I advise you to get a rx-7 and be happy. If you want reliability, then go get a prelude. If you want something fast, get a rx-7. Oh, and btw, dont bother getting an NA rx-7 for speed, its gonna cost more than getting a turbo and getting that to run REALLY FAST!. Just throw in a Intake and full exhaust then welcome to the 13 sec 1/4 mile times

I like this generation Prelude, only if its the Vtec one. It would be nice with a nice suspension setup. Its reletively newer...
What i don't like is the dash its ugly and the seats arekinda funny.
Do make shure to change the timing belt in time thow. A cusin of mine used to own one. The day before it was gona go in for a timing belt change, the timing belt went, expensive repair..
What i like about the FC is that it has a sportscar layout FR and such, interior/exterior is nice and the sound of the wankel just complements it.. For 4000bucks u can find a nice S5 TII if u look hard enoph. Im preaty shure u can find a Nice S5 for under 4k. I boght my 89GTU for 3500 in 2001.
The bad for my particular FC, The engine whent at 114000miles. I think a lady with a dog owned it, a white dog. She must of never redlined it because carbon build up was cause of its death... Its now a TII conversion with some goddies added on, 6yrs later....
Good luck with your choice.. O yhea i would chose the FC..

I cannot believe this is even being discussed, and for 7 pages at that!
If you have to ask, buy the Honda. It will be a fine and reliable daily driver. If you know what you are getting into, and have the passion, drive and willingness to learn (and spend some money!) then get the RX-7.

Yeah it hurt my eyes but still read it, like to see what it was like before I got my hands on the 7 anyhow. As said on other posts, the prelude is a nice car, reliable to an extent, but CANNOT be compared to an rx7 in any way, maybe as an import, that's about it in my case. Now if you drop an H22 in 93 civic hatchback, the prelude motor stands out and can do alot of damage on the srtip and even on some drifty roads with handling.

I've raced both an H23 Si Auto and an H22A Manual agenst an S5 N/A RX-7. I am without doubt a better driver than that RX7 driver. All cars are completely stock. RX7 > Prelude...
...both nice cars; I actually like the way the cabin feels in the Prelude better; but an RX7 with equal mods would eat it up.

Have a fast car will cost you money no matter what.
I have not see ONE stock 4 banger in ANY car; civic, prelude, accord, etc. To be able to handle the high revs that they are exposed to. Every day I see many 4 bangers blowing smoke or burning oil on startup and at WOT, leave a trail of thick or light smoke.
Stock 4 bangers are NOT designed to be reved up all the time. Sure they are made to get up and go but they are not design nor will they ever be design to be a race car. Im sorry but I laugh all the time when I see 4 bangers speeding by me. Sure they may be faster then me but I know my engine would last longer then theres at the higher rpms.
Rotaries can handle high rpms very well if you maintain them.
IF you want a race car, thats what it sounds like to me. Get a rx7 or a high powred NSX , lambo or somthing. Dont get a 4 banger unless you plan on upgrading the internals for it to withstand high rpms.
Get the Lude for these reasons.
Economical Daily Driver
Good Gas Milage
*Less Maintance*
MUUCCHHH Safer in the snow.
Rx7s will not go good in the snow. I know from experience.
Do not get the lude to race around town or to do 1/4 miles times. Like I said. It will cost you alot more in the long run to rev that 4 banger.
