umm....

the 93 eclipse gs is a 1.8 liter (not the 16v dohc version) and it is only 93 or 95 hp...that's pretty close to 50hp/liter. but it isn't necessarily new either

If you get a street-port and bolt-ons, you can definitely win. Currently, I can't really say who would win. Just take him to an autoX.
Be careful how you word that...you may awaken the 2.6L 13b crowd if you haven't already
