Stock for stock the VR-4 will beat a FD. Espicially a 94+ VR-4.

The FD may be light as hell but it loses the hp contest by 65hp plus the VR-4 has AWD it wll out launch the FD. By the end of the 1/4mi the FD should be catching the VR-4. On a road Course the FD owns all its hard to argue with the 2900lb curb weight.

Does anyone want to race and find out ?

did you look at the weight of the VR4? it is like 1000+ pounds more than a stock FD I think that would make up for 65HP

In the 1/4 a VR-4 should be able to edge out a FD, especially a 94+. Its all in the 300+HP AWD launch. A FD will not be far behind by the end, but it will be playing catch-up the entire way. From a higher speed roll a FD should pull. A VR-4 is still a very potent car...

it's pretty close, but the fd would win. The vr-4 has more hp and torque, but it's a fat-*** and doesn't have the hp to make up for it. The FD weighs almost 1000lbs less, so not even awd is enough for the 3000gt.
Plus, after the race, the RX-7 won't have a broken tranny like the 3000gt.

The race would come down more to driver skill than anything else, but the FD kills the 3000gt at all other aspects of performance (except top speed), so I think it's the final winner.

Not trying to argue, but a properly driven VR-4 vs a properly driven FD in the 1/4 = VR-4 winning. Yes its heavier, but the extra power, torque, and AWD still makes it slightly faster than a FD in the 1/4. Im not bench racing ot magazine quoting, but have seen it happen and know what the results will be. Stock for stock the vr-4 comes out ahead all things being equal.

VR4 stock from what I read online gets about low to mid 5's in 0-60 times and does a quarter mile in mid 13's. Thats pretty impressive. Don't let the weight fool you, AWD plays a big role in launches and acceleration.

Think of why the Evo 7 accelerates on par 0-60 with a 405hp Corvette Z06...

Uh yeah i looked at the weight...see sig Why dont you try comparing apples to apples?

Yes the VR-4 loaded can weigh close to 4000Lbs, but on the same token the FD loaded can weigh over 3200lbs loaded...

hmm that math to me nets an 800lbs difference, yes its still alot but a lot less then your claimed 1000+ Please use correct facts in your arguments

So if every 100lbs is worth around 6hp then 6(8)= 56hp still not enough to out run the VR-4 in the 1/4mi.

Cause an FD's curb weigh is 2900 and some change

An FC is 2700lbs right?

I think the original question was an N/A FC vs an SL 3000GT, right?

I ran a 15.599 @ 90.7 in a Volvo against a Five Speed 3000GT SL with intake, exhaust, and pulleys that ran a 15.45. Obviously you can get an N/A FC to run a lower time than that. (And if nobody believes me I've got timeslips and video to prove it.)

Gonna have to find them in the jungle that is my bedroom. I'm kind of surprised that everybody had so much faith in an SL...3000GTs are dogs unless they're VR-4s.
The best part about the video that I have of the Volvo/3KGT race is that it's from inside the 3000GT. My reaction time was much better than his so I actually crossed the finish line first, and the driver goes "He's got me... ... ...Bullshit he runs a 16!"

So, To Summarize: video on other computer, timeslips somewhere (heh)

I found it also.

Curb Weight - Automatic (lb.) 2882

Curb Weight - Manual (lb.) 2858
As taken from http://autos.msn.com/vip/specificati...d=1844&src=vip

So yep we were both wrong

From my experiance a stock SL (assuming its in good running order) can easily run a mid high 15 second 1/4mi, but hey isnt bench racing fun

Who's bench racing?

..I don't think I've ever quoted myself, until now.

I have a 88 GXL and let me tell you 3000gt are way over rated. One they are heavy and two they have no torque. My friend has a 98 3000gt, and I whip his *** all the time. We both run straight pipe dual exhaust. Other than that we are pretty much stock. The first thing you need to do is open you exhaust. Run straight pipe and get headers. I bet you'll beat him. I used to want a 3000gt until I raced him. I beat him by like 2 car lengths. If you drive it right, your rx7 should stomp him!!! I know mine does. I race them slow *** cars all the time. THEY SUCK!!! RX-7s over 3000gts any day

No problem dude. I am always glad to help. That is great that you lost by so little. Now hurry up and get the exhaust and intake and go wip his ***. After you rebuild and port it you will own that guy.

This is like men fighting over their favorite ball team being better than the other team. Just about everyone is a homer and bias to their own liking. And then when it comes down to the facts, everyone shuts up. Funny.

Props to you for hanging in there though Vegeta. Hopefully, by the time you finish your next set of mods, he won't have added anything to his car, and then you can try him again. Don't let it keep you down though. Could be just having to work on your launch.

And as for the "****" thing on people's cars and what not. What is that? Do you keep a ready supply of that stuff in your car incase you do see a VR-4 at the local hangout? That'd be kinda gross dude...

well to provide some facts here. His RX-7's engine need a rebuild very badly. He is 100% stock unless he lied to me but I doubt that. He is doing the rebuild and port this summer. He will be getting an exhaust and intake also. I have been trying to help him in deciding what will get him the best power. I am pretty sure that he just needs a little bit of modding and he will beat the crap out of that guy.
