sorry I just can't stop laughing at that number. try 2650 lbs. stock weight. minus 100 pounds of stuff and I still have the spare and jack.
i didnt realize having a heavy car was so bad.

Hmm.. This guys car saved his life (ruiner).. could you even begin to say the same thing about yours? Didnt think so..

maybe someone else said this in the thread, but instead of being in such disbelief about 5 car lengths, why not just get in, open your eyes, stop talking smack, put your foot on the gas and go run the car?

i don't know about you guys, but i didn't really take safety into consederation when buying a 3000 or RX-7. just like guys that buy vipers, corvettes, lambos and ferrari's aren't probably asking the sales rep what the crash rating looks like on them

I would also like to add that once you begine to race you give up the safety. One takes his life into his own hands when doing stupid **** like we all do on the streets. If you die racing you knew it could happen and if you did not it is your fault.

There are people like that in any car group, please dont generalize. Most of us can and do appreciate any performance car.

I would honestly laugh at an n/a 80's model rx7. If this guy is getting ported heads then he definitly has a few more mods done (AT LEAST intake and exhaust). You're starting out with aprox 147hp at the FLYWHEEL. We hit more than that at the tires 100% stock. ..
There are many N/A FCs that are making a good bit of power and should be able to hang with Vr-4s or R/t TT. I personally like these cars, and was looking at one before I bought my rx-7. After driving one, I really didnt like it that much anymore. It was a 94 R/t TT. Yes it was damn fast, but it felt like a fast caddilac to me, just entirely too big and cushy. I personally like my "slow" N/A rx-7 more. Way lighter and more nimble, a true sports car. Again , not raggin on the 3kgts, I like them alot, and respect them, but it just wasnt for me..

If this guy has a 1997 maybe you'll get lucky and he'll have the 164hp base model (if his rims arent chrome- base model).

Anyway, if this guy has heads, intake, exhaust, etc.. You'll be fucked unless you go forced induction or a nice shot of nitrous. We're very capable of running high 14's stock and even dipping well into the 12's with a $3000 turbo kit (yes, FWD).

get your facts straight. Either put that $3000 into a nice turbo kit or prepared to get owned.
personally I think with a full exhaust and intake work , maybe some weight reduction, his N/A rx-7 should be pretty well matched to the N/A 3KGT.

Hmm.. it seems higgis car was hit on the pass side. He would of been in two million pieces if that wreck would have been the other way around.

of course it's not all the car. I CAN say that it had more than a little to do with it though..

well higgi crashed at around 70-80 MPH so I would not even have expected him to be alive. He walked away from that from what I read. From all the crash and wreck pix I have seen of FC's they are always in pretty good shape considering what happened. Read my post above about responibility. If one is not prepared to put ones life at risk you should not be doing this stuff.

Look the point is that weight makes a difference in the way power can be used.

3380 lbs. and 2650lbs. is a hell of a lot different. that is 730 lbs. of difference. and I think you said that was a lightened weight. that makes it more if the stock VR4 weight is more than that.

Rxmfn7-

i personally have no problems with rx7's. I just get pissy when people start talking out of their asses. If i beat hondas everyday, then log on to a honda board and see them calling my car a slow POS.. i'm going to get pissed and say something back.

Now granted, i dont beat rx7's everyday.. but i have taken a few of them out in my time (never a 90s model turbo- hardly even see those). I know what our cars are capable of and i know what it takes to beat them.

And the "i would laugh at an 80's model n/a rx7" - I was taking out new mustang gt's/lt1's with only intake and exhaust work. I would litterly run away from hondas on the highway.. I'm not going to feel threatened by a car with almost 100 less HP than me (stock)..

nahmean?

I completely understand. When Im done building my N/A rx-7, even with engine work Im probably only looking at 200rwhp. High 13s in the 1/4. Not that impressive I agree, but in a 2600lb car with 50/50 weight distribution it will be damn fun. Thats more of what Im looking for. Even a lightly modded VR-4 would be able to wipe the floor with me acceleration wise, but I could hang very well on a track. Like I said, I like 3KGTs, I think they are beautiful looking cars. I just have slightly different wants from my car...No disrespect.....

do you realize that only vr4s and stealth TT's weigh that much? AWD, AWS, heavy *** tools, 20gal gas tank, etc.. I'm fine with the weight of our cars.

btw- point of my post is base/sl's weigh in at under 3400lbs in full stock trim. Lighter wheels, no spare or tools, 3 gallons in the gas tank.. we're really not all that heavy.

matching up with the VR4 even That was with the weights on that link posted above and a 2800 pound weight for the S4 GXL
Here are my earlier calculations on power to weight ratios. a Base 3k against the GXL RX the RX would win out slightly. the SL model GT would be faster than a stock GXL

The sport was about 2650 pounds
150 pounds lighter than the GXL. BTW
