It Runs

It runs. I finally got my T2 back together. Probably cranked maybe 4 seconds and it fired right up. I kept the idle up at about 1500 for a few minutes and then it idled by itself at about 1100. In past rebuilds I used just petroleum jelly to coat all of the surfaces but this time I used the stuff Aaron Cake cites in his rebuild video, Royal Max Purple Assembly Lube. I think the Royal Max stuff smokes even more than the petroleum jelly. I stayed in the car a little too long and the garage was so engulfed in smoke that I couldn't see. A police car happened to drive by just as the smoke was really billowing out of the door and the officer asked if everything was alright.

I would say it definitely has better cohesion than the vaseline. I applied some of the purple max to a housing and then tried to scrap it off with an apex seal. It actually bonds to the metal.
This is my fifth rebuild. The first 4 I used Vaseline and they had no problems. The purple max is just another layer of protection. I bought the large bottle for about $15 and I only needed about 1/2 of it.

He probably thought the garage was on fire because I was standing outside the door watching the smoke roll out.

Thanks. I had so much trouble with the engine before the rebuild I was sure happy to have it fire up and then idle pretty smoothly.

I still have to put the exhaust back on and then I'm going to take it for a ride. If nothing happens, it will be first time the 7 was more than 100 yds from the garage since I bought it last October.

That's awesome.

It's always great to hear success stories. Makes me dare to hope my car will run some day
