And i assumed it was the ecu dumping more fuel in, because both cars smelt really really rich during startup. hmmmm, maybe my cars got problems too? not worried, runs good, so im happy

I have read the whole thread, and i don't know anything. BUT what if your ECU is dumping excess fuel because of some signal it is receiving?
Does anyone know what signals the ECU receives for it to dump fuel? WaterTemp? ?

+1 I just started having the same problem , but mine sometimes doesnt start as well , I have to pull the injector fuse and shove it back in while its turning over to get it to start , also it dies at idle sometimes.... it almost feels fluttery at lower rpms , till I feather it up to above 4000 rpm , but sometimes it just starts up and runs like a charm its really starting to tick me off though .... btw its an 87 TII

I have new grommets, o-rings, and pintle caps. Still have this problem.
So far, after reading the whole thread, I still have no clue as to what to check...

i replaced my grommets...no difference...i then replaced the hoses that go from my turbo to the wastegate actuator...now my car idles pretty solid at 800...but the BAC is all the way closed...i think i need to adjust my idle mixture screw though...im gonna go look through the FSM to find what to jumper, then ill try to adjust it...im gonna bet its a VAC leak for most of you...made a BIG difference for me.

WOAH...i just read something kinda interesting...do you all have the small "pill" before your pressure sensor? it is supposed to keep the pressure sensor from seeing pressure spikes...could this be part of our problem?

I have a very similar prob on a ported 87 TII
exhaust smells like gas
engine bay smells fine
floods on short trips
stutters in 1st gear when secondary injectors kick in
sometimes blue smoke outta first gear, sometimes not
Idle is set low
I just cleaned the injectors . I may replace the FPS next. SO, from what I've gathered, the problem seems to be vacuum hoses? Is there anything else that could cause this?

13-14mpg city doesn't sound grossly off to me but i could be biased because my car has run rich for so long now, however i still don't think it is all that far off the mark.
i didn't read through everything but i didn't notice any mention of the variable resistor. you did try adjusting it correct? it will not affect mileage much at all but it would cause the rough idle.
