Running very rich...
First off, I want to thank all of you!!! You guys are very patient and try to help in any way possible. Thanks!!! My 89 gxl is running very rich... I can smell the gas coming out of my megan exhaust, more than usual. How can I lower my air-fuel ratio, My engine is stock, it has only bolt ons(intake, headers, exhaust). The smell of gas is very sickening, please help...

Okay thanks!!! Ill check the ecu and have someone run a check on it. I know autozone will do it for free. So a full tune up? I just recently changed the oil on it. Umm can anyone recommend very good spark plugs please? Ill change the fuel filter and have my injectors cleaned. Thank you again!!!

check the compression - if its low, there's not much the tune up things can do to help. If compression is OK, then
NKG spark plugs 2 leading, 2 trailing (they will have an L or a T marked on them)
New plug wires - at least 8.5mm shielded
change the fuel filter
set the timing
set the TPS
adjust the idle
check and replace the O2 sensor if necessary
You really want to do as much of this yourself as you can. True (read good) rotary engine mechanics are tough to find and the mechanics at your local dealership or auto shop will probably do more harm than good. There are online factory service manuals here at this site in the FAQ section.

Ok guys greatly appericated!!! So I need to check the CAS, I don't know that much about rotaries... But Im very determined to learn everything I can. I will definitely read more in this forum, sorry for being lazy. I just like more direct answers to my questions and so far you guys have patience for me. I thank you for that. So I need the NGKs, ok no prob. I need to find out what the CAS is and also the location of the service manuals in this forum. Im new to this. Ive got my 89 idling at 1100, and will check the the tps for correct ohms. The smell of fuel is very sickening. backfiring happens when i deaccelarte from 3k and down... Its weird. I will also change the o2 sensor.

It sounds a lot like items are missing on your car. Like the charcoal canister, airpump and ACV. And did I say Catalytic Converter missing in action?
Or it's possible that you have a fuel leak at the pulsation damper. You turn the key to ON, jumper the yellow two socket fuel pump check connector, and after ten to fifteen minutes, look under the car to see if there is fuel dripping. What the above does is make the fuel pump run without the engine running. The fuel pump will constantly, for the ten to fifteen minutes, make the fuel rail and hoses pressurize and make fuel constantly flow in a circle from the pump to the rails and back into the fuel tank. And if there is a leak, after ten to fifteen minutes you should be puddling under the car.
Factory Service Manuals downloads are in the FAQ thread. One of the first threads on this site.
