running alternator without plug conected?

You don't get the warning light cluster lighting up with they key on but the engine off, and the alternator doesn't seem to come online until you spike 3500-4000 RPM, then it functions normally.

yes actually!! its an early 87 NA tho.. but theres no plug still....
i bought the car in that condition and it wasnt running, too many vac leaks, but now its running sometimes i get no charge from the alt and other times it works normal..... i tired splicing wires but i think i spliced the wrong ones, cause i treid tot urn the car off and it wouldnt shut off!! lol..
does anyone know exactly what wires i need to run to splice into?? not sure which harness plug to tap into?

Sorry, this site lost my first reply that took some time to write.
The alternator pins are in a TEE form. The top pin, or top of the TEE (letter T) goes to a 15amp fuse in the interior fuse box. That wire normally is BLACK/WHITE.
The bottom of the T, goes to the CPU. If you pull the plug off the CPU you will see a WHITE/BLACK wire in the plug. You could run a new wire from the alt to that one in the CPU plug. Just cut the present white/black wire about three inches back from the plug and splice the new wire to the piece left in the CPU plug.
Maybe run a new wire to the fuse to the BW wire on the alt plug.
Another way is to run two new wires from the alt plug to a plug called X-15 in the 87fsm. That plug is one of the plugs on the turbo emissions harness you just installed. You'd splice the black/white to the BROWN/RED wire that is in that plug and you'd splice the WHITE/BLACK wire from the alt to the BROWN/BLACK wire in that plug.
NOTE: the BLACK/WHITE goes to the ENGINE FUSE in the interior fuse box.
I'd post some jpg's if you want to do it this way. This site isn't reliable right now and I'd hate to waste anymore time this day on this.
