Rounded Nut on steering rack

I have a rounded off nut on one of the hard lines that runs into the steering rack, any suggestions on fixing this? It's a real pain in my *** so any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Vice grips.

Mitigate rounding flare nuts off with a flare nut wrench (or line wrench).

I tried some not so great vice grips, didn't work to well. I'll try some better quality ones, Agreen, I have not tried those, I will probably pick some up. Trying to do everything I can without having to get a new line or a rack for that matter.

You can file 2 flats onto the nut opposite each other just enough to make a tight fit on an open end wrench. As was suggested, heat the nut and remove.

If you have the room to work, a really small pipe wrench and a piece of pipe to extend the handle for that extra leverage is my magic tool for this kind of thing.

If it comes down to it,snap the line and put a deep socket on the line nut.
Those 2 lines are hard to finesse.I noticed that if you can get one off you can get at the other one freely.

I may have to do that, and maybe find a new line. All the nuts came off except one which sucks.

Step 1: PB Blast it.

Sears carries damaged bolt removers. Pound socket on, twist with socket wrench and hope it grabs. It's basically the opposite of an easy-out. http://m.sears.com/productdetails.do...r=00952166000P

I usually try taking a dremel or file to reshape the nut for either a smaller socket or wrench.

If that doesn't work, heat it with a torch and remove it. Any hardware store and even Walmart will carry a small handheld torch. I've never used one because I have a full size oxygen and acetylene torch, but I've heard the other small kind works well and comes in handy.

With patience, it will come off.

you have to clamp the vice grips on real tight!!! and in the future always use a good quality line wrench on those types of fittings and they don't need to be torqued to gazillion ft lbs.

Can you take the rack out with the line and let a shop deal with it?
By the way,you never said why you were IN this dillemma in the first place.

I could do that, rather not but I may have to. Guy before me had a v8 kit and the lines went through the engine cradle.
