Unhappy Rotary Innovation Pulley - Defect or what?

Hi all,

I had recently purchased a Dual-belt Alternator Pulley from Rotary Innovation. I just recieved it in the mail today (prompt shipping, btw) and when comparing it to the stock pulley I noticed right away that one of the 'humps' was almost twice as thick as the rest.

This didn't worry me much untill installation. It seems this extra thick hump in the pulley is at the back of it, so when its bolted down to the alternator, it binds up against the alt cage/bolts.

Am I doing something wrong, or did I just get a defective pulley? I'm waiting to hear back from R.I. on the matter..

edit, can't attach the pic, won't let me post it in img tags... so here's link:

Sounds like you forgot to install the spacer on the shaft. Or another potential source of problem is a remanned alternator slightly out of spec on the rear case depth.

First pic shows a stock pulley, with stock spacer

Second pic shows the ROTARY INNOVATION Dual Belt pulley on the same Alternator with the same stock spacer

I have sold over 1 thousand pullies and this is only the second report of a problem, the first one was solved with a thin shim (.003") between the spacer and the pulley.

in order to fit the FD Alt, they must be bored out and a different spacer installed

Is that something you could take care of for me prior to shipping? At an additional cost of course.

Zach

P.S. Is there anything left of my FD shell at your place?

Here is a shot of where you would place a shim (IF NEEDED) in order to compensate for manufacturing variences.

Zach, the only thing left is the passenger side carcass. Drivers side is being mounted above the shop door

Banzai, that's good to hear bro. Sounds like things are going good for you. You never said if you could bore the pulley out for me so it will fit on an FD alt. If you could bore it out for me and then ship it I would greatly appreciate it. Just let me know how much extra it will cost. I'll send pix of the TII when I get home from the desert in November. She's coming along nicely now.

Thank you bansai.

I was just worried at first. I will try a thin washer in the morning and I'm sure that will take care of it.

Thanks again for prompt shipment, and this thread just goes to show everyone that Rotary Innovation has sweet Customer Support.

I know Banzai very well and if there is one thing about him that can NEVER be questioned, it's the fact that he will break his own back making sure that all of his customers get exactly what they need. That's why I check with him first whenever I need something.
