Rotary Innovation Dual Alt Pulley
#76
Banzai, if the bronze-looking one had the spacer turned down to less than the ID of the ridge on the FD alt, then it would fit/line up (even tho it would sit closer to the alt)? I guess you could always space the alt out a tiny bit if it didnt. If you aren't going to do anything with it, I'll buy it off of you and toss it on the lathe here to make it work

This sucks. argh.
Come to think of it, I dont think I need a dual pulley. If im not mistaken dual pulley is used when the air pump is eliminated? Mine is still in tact on the engine.
Could I use the old FC alt pulley and machine it to 17mm shaft size and slap it on the FD alt? has anyone heard if this worked?

hey Ex-Eg that should work, I am using my dual pulley that was originally 15mm had it machined to 17mm. I took the spacer off of the 15mm shaft and brought that with me to ask if he could make a 17mm spacer of the same length and he did and that gave me the correct spacing for the belts. My machinist did a very nice job and the pulley and spacer went on without a hitch. So the stock pulley should ultimately work so long as you get a spacer of the same length as the original also machined to fit the 17mm shaft.

Banzai:
"FC is 15mm, the FD is 17mm" I stand corrected.
Further, to follow toplessFC3Sman's suggestion, one could simply lathe down the OD of the spacer to the same OD as a stock FD Pully? If so, I'd also like to take that shot with one and have the lathe work done.
DaMaCCa:
So you essentially had a machinist drill out a P-164 dual pully to 17MM as well as the stock spacer?
Thanks

Had a chance to try out the pulley. Good news and bad news. The belt spacing is perfect but the built in spacer is too thick to fit past the ridge on the alt... Back to the drawing board, I will look for one that does not have the built in spacer.
Also attached pics of FC (15mm) vs FD (17mm) alt shafts,
If you paid someone to machine out a 15mm pulley to 15mm then you got taken, you also do not have a FD alternator. More likely you are just mistaken as to the size that it was machined to.

Reason I ask is that my original Rotary Innovations FC pulley that I took to get machined was machined incorrectly. They bored it out too large and reimbursed me when I had to buy a replacement Rotary Innovations FC pulley. While waiting for the replacement to arrive I got bored I got curious about fitment and using the butchered pulley I saw that the lip on my FD was going to be an issue. I ground it down and created as thin spacer as I could but the Rotary Innovations pulley was still to thick to tighten down with a lock washer and bolt. That's when I gave in and ordered the Banzaitoyota pulley designed for swapping the FD alt onto an FC.
My apologies, I just took a better look at your profiles of the pulleys and see the lip height is in fact the problem. I left my lack of looking closer before posting. I'm still curious if there is some variable with that lip. Or if people who didn't address the lip issue were simply installing the pulley incorrectly and having the pulley off a bit?

Edit: I took it that you don't offer a FD Alt swap dual pulley otherwise. If you do, that let me know and I'll take that route.
Thanks

I stumbled across this the other day. It appears to be the pulley that you guys are looking for, even has the rotor machined into the face. I would contact them first make sure they actually have the part, and that it has a 17mm bore since their description is beyond vague. It cannot fit both the 2nd gen and 3rd gen alternator.
I have not stopped looking for a low cost drop in replacement, but it is also not on my super critical list considering the amount of engines we have in the shop right now for rebuilds.
Hope this helps, it is a little pricey, but if it is what you are looking for....

I just talked to O & J. The good news is indeed they offer a 17MM Bore dual Pulley. The bad news they don't have any of the Milled Aluminum ones in stock. They had 6 of them but for some reason they sold out quickly.
They do have a couple of powder coated colored ones. A Red one and a Blue one. They had a Black one, but I just bought it.![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
They also offer 15MM bored for stock 2nd Gen Alternator applicaiton. Not in stock either as they recently sold their last one.

Update. They will consider a group buy to bring the $65 per unit cost down, with minimum threshold of 10 units. They have both 17MM FD into FC pulleys as well as standard 15MM FC into FC units.

I created a thread in the 2nd Gen For Sale Forum, not for an actual Group Buy list (gotta pay $50 to create an actual Group Buy thread platform these days so I'm told), but as a list of interested parties if a Group Buy were to be arranged. The larger the number of interested's, the lower the per unit price will be and a per unit price that can be offered can then be nailed down.
I just checked, and thus so far it hasn't cleared Mod review. Very confusing where the line is drawn on these kind of things these days, at least for me. It was so much more free flowing before............

Does the stock FD pully have a built in spacer or a separate spacer than can be used with aftermarket pulleys?? Me not being an FD guy, I have no idea.

Good luck with your GB, you might be better off just buying the parts individually and paying the few extra bucks. From what I have seen there is not a huge demand for these. This would be why I didn't bother having something produced for resale, the volume just is not there, but you never know.
Thanks. Looks like my work is done here, it is up to you guys now.

"Good luck with your GB"
Nothing going on with the group buy. The thread I submitted into the main 2nd Gen Sell/Buy Forum on the 27th to see if there would be enough interest that it would be worth starting a Group Buy thread never made it past the Mods. Not even a comment from a Mod to me about it, one way or the other. It just disappeared into the Mod Review black hole.
I truley miss the good old days before this Forum became institutionalized. This aspec of a colorful resource for grass roots rotorheads has digressed to shades of grey.
Happy New Year.
