Rotary Engine Tech Courses?

Rotary Engine Tech Courses?
Anyone know any places that offer technical courses on the Rotary Engine? I assume there has to be something out there since Mazda is still selling RX-8s.

I'm not aware of anything of the sort. If you get a job at a Mazda dealership, they likely have some video based training.
For most of us, a service manual and working alongside someone who has worked on them before is the best way to learn. There are many rebuild dvd's available as well. General automotive principles apply to a rotary just like anything else. It is just an engine.

The short rebuild videos from www.rebuildingrotaryengines.com cover a lot of the trickier stuff in depth. Look at those and get a full rebuild DVD.
The only trustworthy Mazda engine courses are taught to the techs at the Richmond VA facility. They have master engine builders from Japan fly in and teach everybody.

your garage...and your car.
I remember thinking the same thing when I 1st got into rotarys, but there is no such thing. Mazda does not do rebuilds. They just send a new motor from the factory. So there is no training on the internals of the motor.

FSM + Mazdatrix rebuild DVD + 1000s of hours reading various threads on the many rotary forums is how I learned everything I know. I've never actually built a motor, so it's entirely possible that I'm doing it wrong, but if you laid all the parts out in front of me, I'm fairly confident I could put together a fully functional engine .

Between my first two RX-7s I've got a pretty good grasp on most of the basic to intermediary things, but I'd really like to get into engine rebuilds... so I guess I've got some reading/video watching to do! Thanks for the help guys.
