To Rice or Not to Rice that is the Fooked up question!!!
There was a time when you could come on this board and not hear the word Rice...But now days, that all you ever hear when you do something someone else does not agree with...This Board has 10,000 members and its one of the biggest boards for Rx-7...but ever post of someones car gets something flamed on it unless its stock...then it looks nice...Does the R in Rx-7 stand for Rice???? someone help me out...why are there so many haters on here...are they upset because they didnt get to do the mod first? Maybe they like it and are afraid to go against the flow and say they like it??? Or MAYBE they dont even have an Rx-7 and they have a honda and they come on here to make trouble...LOL
Anyways personally i am getting tired of threads on the 2nd gen forum about rice...such as the tII hood on a n/a and so on...
Peace

Personally, I don't care...  I believe whatever makes you happy, go for it.  For my personal cars, I like the understated effect - I'm more of a "sleeper" person.
I do like my touch of "rice" though.  Some of my favorites are carbon fiber accent panels, Razo accessories (shift ***** and pedal covers), and colored silicon hoses under the hood.

"Rice" is what makes you "look faster" than you really are (VTEC/Turbo/V8 stickers, turbo scoops, dual exhausts, fake rotors/FMIC/BOV etc) , or some things that you call "performance mods", when actually these are slowing you down (huge rims, wings, lowering beyond belief etc).
Adding a nice shift ****, pedals, handbrake, panel trim, white gauges or even leather to your interior is NOT "rice"...

Yo,
That's one of the best definitions of "Rice" I've seen. TII hood on an NA would fit. *grin*

I only have a problem with the people who think that ANY modification is "rice."
There have already been some good definitions stated in this thread, so I'll leave it at that.

I have an RX-7, a rotary engine'd car. One of the main reasons I bought it is to BE different. There are about 6 FC's in my area, all of them CLOSE to stock, so I want to add something to mine to make it different. 16-17' 6-stars ( Konig Rated-R's probably ), some performance lowering springs, tint, and my system. None of this makes me faster, actually the opposite. But I'm different from the other 5 FC's in my area, and people see my car, and know it's me.
No Stickers, No Daytona Wing, No 22's, just a little something to make me different

i agree with the statement that huge rims, a picnic table of a wing, and other stupid mods like that is rice. but taking a TII hood and putting it on an N/A? i dont think that is rice. it makes the car look better, and somewhat helps the engine to be cooler. just my 02 cents

The T2 hood makes an NA look turbo, it's the same as putting a type R or a vtec sticker on a civic DX. There is no difference and you would call that civic rice............. double standard because it's your car, great

tons of people put hood scoops on their cars, including domestics, so i guess that makes them rice too, because they are copying other cars my dad has a RAM AIR hood on his Trans Am, but it is an aftermarket hood, so i guess that makes him rice because he is making it look like he has ram air

actually the turbo II hood on NA's wouldn't help the cooling that much because it is too far back, the intercooler on turbo II's grabs the air. I don't if anyone has seen it but the hoods on the old old (83?) Starions would be better for cooling the engine down.

Everyone has their own idea of what "rice" is. Generally it has a negative connotation so usually no one wants it to apply to themselves. They shape their definition of "rice" to apply to things they find lame or of questionable taste. Obviously "lame" and "of questionable taste" mean many things to many people; trying to pin something down as "definitely rice" is not possible, especially for gray-area things like lighter hoods which happen to belong on a higher-performance model, or appearance enhancements which do not negatively affect performance. Sure, you may think the bigass MAZDA PERFORMANCE DOOD sticker splattered diagonally across the side of a car is rice, but someone else thinks your car and clothes and house and girlfriend are ugly, too.
I personally prefer a near-factory look myself (not necessarily stock, but high-quality well-made design) without stickers and enormous wings and massive wheels, but that's just me.
Jokes are one thing, but think about it before you hit the submit button to truly insult some kid who's happy and thinks his car is cool as hell.

People are always looking for an excuse to seem better than you are. Riced cars are for losers. Drag racing is for rednecks. yada yada yada, whatever. These people are looking for an excuse to seem better than you because in reality, they aren't. Lol, isn't that the definition of "Rice" in the first place? Watch out for these hypocrites, and above all, have fun with your car! Every RX-7 that came off the line was a performance vehicle, and it's ok to be proud of that. I certainly am. Happy rotaring!
