Reverse Hood on a FC
#5
i find FBs much more easier to work on than FCs, is it not because the hood placement? the engines in FCs are so far back i would think a reverse hood would make it easier to work on.

Also, there's not much you need to do that requires you looking behind your intake. Think about it, what's on the back of your intake. A couple vacuum lines? You could say the throttle cable, but that's on the corner of the side/back so that doesn't really count. You could say the thermowax, but that's on the corner of the top/back of the intake so that really doesn't count.

the hood isnt designed to be hinged from the front, im not sure that small section could support the rest of the hood's weight. Also, i love the FB's retro reverse hood, but i dont think it would look right on an FC.

i'd like to see a picture of it, when done, or if anyone has done it yet. reverse hood is easier to work on things like the manifold, but makes it a bit tougher for things on the front of the motor. i've owned both an fb,an fc, & like the fb hood more... then again, fb motors are a bit less complex...

What's this about losing your head in a collision if the hood hinges at the front??
Being quite familiar with body structures and how they bend I can tell you that an two FB style latches on the rear corners of the hood wouldn't reduce the structures strength in any way.
I could see that if the FC had a mash prevention style hood hinge (the type that have a catch and hook on the hinge that will butt together if the hood gets pushed back) but it doesn't, sooo I don't know what you guys are getting at.
However, I will say you'll need to add some structure to the hood's skeleton over the rad support....and depending on where you locate the fulcrum itself, perhaps delete/move the relays for the headlights/the horn and possibly some of that little panel they attach to so the hood will clear when it opens.
But if you're into the fabrication thing and have some time, go for it, it would be neat I think....
