retake on three alternators wtf
ok so we thought we fixed my issue but the car sat three months started fine good charging above 1700 rpm drove it 500 miles washed it including engine bay and bam my 130 amp alternator went to **** im kinda hurt by it lol this is number four and the first 130 amp i put in i did have a smaller then 1/3 alt pully made to try to get it to charge at idle but havent installed it yet im scared that maybe rmps are killing them at a 1/3 it means at high rpm its spinning at 2100 rpm or higher at red line and yes i drive it like a 7 should be revving the **** out of it im doing some more checking on it in the morn and probably putting a stock alt on it until i can get the 130 warrentied the only thing i did that i normally dont was a engine wash and then 30 miles later did a high rpm passing of a damn mustang then pow i thought i broke a belt my volts droped to 12 from 14 and slowly droped to nothing any ideas on this would be a help

Ive pressure washed a lot of engine bays, I usually just use compressed air to dry stuff out. Never been a problem for me. Ive always liked the FD/RE alternators, the one I have on this car is just over 100 amps when tested and Ive not thought about it since I put it in. I don't know jack about alternators but I would guess something off a V8 might not be designed for higher rpm's but then again I would think a good alternator should hold up. Why do you need 130 amps? Stereo?

blown a fuse? check the fuse box under dash next to your foot. theres a 15 there i think in the third row down. should upgrade that fuse to a 30 or bigger. you may also want to add a fuse from the alternator to the battery. an 80 or 100 amp might sound overkill but its better to be safe then sorry. make sure you have it properly wired and its not shorting on anything either. if none of that helps. you should check your stock wiring for any flaws it could be shorting or wired wrong. typically people who dont know what theyre doing pick the rx7 to mess around with and really jack things up. haha one of those people being myself and plenty of others on this site. good luck with your alt

also I'm not exactly sure but if your rx7 is an non turbo should you be revving the **** out of it? again I'm not sure on that. But i have an non turbo and I dont redline it very much and it runs fine. also I have a couple plastic grocery bags stored in the back to cover the alternator and fuses for when i wash the engine bay. might be a good idea

ok so we thought we fixed my issue, but the car sat three months started fine !good charging above
1700 rpm drove it 500 miles washed it including engine bay and bam! my 130 amp alternator went to
****! I'm kinda hurt by it. lol this is number four and the first 130 amp I put in. I did have a smaller then
1/3 alt pully made to try to get it to charge at idle, but havent installed it yet im scared that maybe
rmps are killing them at a 1/3 it means at high rpm its spinning at 2100 rpm or higher! at red line and
yes I drive it like a 7 should be ! revving the **** out of it. I'm doing some more checking on it ! in the
morn and probably putting a stock alt on it until I can get the 130 warrentied. The only thing I did that I
normally dont was a engine wash and then 30 miles later did a high rpm passing of a damn mustang
then pow!! I thought I broke a belt my volts droped to 12 from 14 and slowly droped to nothing any
ideas on this would be a help !?!?!?!
hope thats better sorry guys like i said i post alot from my cell phone !
