something like a 10,000 dollar fine if you get caught...like if you wanna sell the car or something (god forbid! =x)
we were gonna do that on my friends 79 trans am today, but my professor told us he wanted nothing to do with it because of a fine...

Turning it back is cake once you have the cluster out and play with things a bit. The hard part is finding out the legalities of it.
I know in Minnesota there's a spot on the title for inacurate milage reporting due to malfunctioning odometers or odometers that have rolled past their and reset.
I'm pretty sure as long as the buyer is notified that there is a mileage variation and you sign on it there isn't a problem. It's when you lie about it and try to pass the car off as a low mile vehicle that you're gonna get fined.
Why the hell would you sell your FC anyways? I thought there was an unspoken rule among us FC owners that we either pass it onto another rotary nut, drive it until the wheels fall off (us NA guys) or boost it to an early grave.

cars that are 10 or more years older it should not matter ????
but the easy way to do it is to turn it foward, a drill or a set speed drimal
witch is the best. find something that is the right size for the hole in the back and let it roll ,,,,,, not to fast or the #'s will be messed up

If you wanna know your miles for the rebuild that's what the tripometer is for. Reset it to 0, start driving the rebuild, it will roll over back to 0 at 1k, then just wait for it to roll over again. Bam 2k no problem.

Well the odometer thats in the car now doesnt work. I am swapping in a s5 cluster and the milage wont be for my car anyway so i dont think its really tampering. Also im pretty sure cars 10 years or older dont show mileage when you register them. Ill call dmv later and ask about the legalities.
I had already tried the whole writing down current thign but thats when i realized my odometer never moves, lol. I dont think the tripometer works either been at 000 since i got it.

There is a small C clip, on both odometers (there are two built into the Fc cluster), remove the clip, turn the dials to the proper mileage (since you are replacing a broken cluster, you want the vehicles mileage not the engines mileage so that you don't go to "slam me in the butt federal prison" for mileage tampering) then put the C clips back in... pretty simple.

^lol, "slam me in the butt federal prision" lol. Reset your new cluster to the miles on your car like icemark said. Get yourself a little motor clock like for a boat, that'll give you a really good estimate of how many miles you travel as long as you can do math and obey the speed limits most of the time.

hahaha....my odo doesnt work either..neither does my speedo....so i figure before the rebuild it gets 180 to a tank....round up its 200 to a tank....then just keep track of how many times u fill up.....its that easy..........of course when u hit near the 3000 mark....change the oil
