Yeah, I was referring to just the driveshaft. Most parts are available easily, but U-joints were something I wouldn't believe.

Does anyone know of a solution for the "unreplaceable" FD driveshaft U-joints? Will these work?

That is a shot in the dark, but I thought I would ask anyway...

Just for the record. I no longer sell these directly any longer. You can call Rockford Driveline Components and they will sell them.

RX7 87-91 w/ Turbo 430-11

Glad to hear so many guys are believing its true and saving a ton of money just replacing their OE U-joints.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I love zombie movies and also have to replace my driveshaft. (and am using the search button at the top) My question is, how am I supposed to balance it if it is from another vehicle. Do I draw the way the shaft was taken out on paper and try to install the new one in the same way or does it not matter? The post says that it does not need to be balanced again but I am replacing my driveshaft with one from another vehicle.
Thanks in advance.

Driveshafts aren't mated to other parts for balancing so its just the shaft itself. If its been apart and you didn't mark the end pieces to go back in the same way get it balanced. Even if everything is put back right its good to have it done, just cheap insurance from vibration frustration.

Look for a driveline/driveshaft repair shop. They will be the ones with the equipment to do it.

I replaced both U-joints on my 86 with 430-10A 2 weeks ago. This night as I was leaving the office, I made a fast start (not a burnout !!!) to clear the intersection and WHAMMM !!!
Big clunk from under the car and no movement. Almost got hit oon the side by on coming cars.
Pushed back to the street I was coming out of and got under the car. U-joint snapped. When it broke, the driveshaft hit the shifter extension housing and broke that too.

Needless to say that I am very upset. If I had abused the car I'd be honest about it. But I just made a quick launch. Nothing the OEM part didn't survive.
I have seen this before on parts where the material is of lesser quality.

I'll call Rockford tomorrow and see what I get.

Just thought I'd share my experience. If someone knows of another replacement, I'm in to try it.

Just as a note:

Spicer also makes a u-joint for this application. It is 5-3202x for the NA and 5-3201x for the turbos.

I ordered mine from CCI driveline.

GMB also makes them with new stake caps(no dicking with inner snap rings).

GMB 220 0063 for all n/a from 84-91. downside is they have no grease fitting.

the generic 430-10a can be found at many driveline shops(except any in vegas...)
