removing trans...PLEASE HELP!!!
alright so im taking my transmision out to replace the peice of **** with somthing thats at least halfway decent and im 90% done and i get stuck on the stupidist thing. i got the driveshaft and exaust and crossmember all off. and all thats left is the 3 of so bolts on the top that hold it to the engine and their so tight i cant figure out a way to get them off. i had 2 wrenches linked together and the box end on the bolt and i just enden up completly striping it in one turn. i tried one of the other bolts and it wont budge. what the hell can i do? i got the jack under the trans to support it. im seriously to the point that im gonna take the car to the juck yard if i dont get this tranny out. i baught the thing for $500 and every time i fix somthing 17 more things go wrong.thanks.

The bolt/Nut at the Top of the trans, you can get to,by the Passenger Side,up top, move the Coolant hose, you will see it.
The Bolts on the Side of the Trans are pretty well visible either UP TOP,just by the Oil pedestal and the other you can see on the passenger side or look up from under.
Really it isn't that hard..I took out a couple Transmissions,by Myself.and I can Hardly WALK/Stand.(waiting for wheel chair).
right now I am swapping engines.
By the way,a 14mm socket and a half inch drive rachet is Good to use here.(if the Bolts are that ON there.)But Honestly I think you are just Pulling on the wrench..don't do that. You need to Put the Socket/or Box end wrench on it and give it Sudden Force..WHACK!with a Hammer..it will Break the Threads free.I found that Pulling on a tight bolt will only Snap it,and you get Tired.

In all seriousness, take the dashpot off and you'll pop a flame at high rpm when shifting....
Other than that, the others have covered pretty much anything else I'd want to say.

i know where all the bolts are. i see what your sayin about the sudden force thing. thats what i did with the ones on the bottom. the ones on the top are by all kinds of break lines and ****. i dont really have room to move around and jerk on it. and i dont know what to do about the stripped one. its all sorts of fucked up.

i finally got the 2 bolts off. i found a spot under the car where i could swing a hammer and banged a socket onto the stripped bolt and used a big *** pipe for leverage. now i found another bolt though. i dont know what the ***** goin on. it lookes like it was put on backwards. all their is is threads and then a cut at the end where you can put like a flathead screwdriver. then i cant see very good cuz theirs a lot of stuff bot it looks like the head of the bolt is on the engine.it goes through the engine then a bracket that has nothing on it, just a whole where somthing should be bolted onto, then through and out the tranny.theres no way to get to the head of the bolt either its behind the engine under the throttle body and hoses and ****.wtf is goin on!

Looking at the transmission from the back to the front of the car, you have:
Two bolts on the top right hand corner
One on bottom right hand corner
Two on bottom left hand corner
One on the left
One on the top left hand corner
Are you talking about the bolt on the left? The one will thread from the front of the engine towards the back, you will have to remove it, its supposed to go through a bracket that hold the wiring harness in place.
If you can't get to it from up top, try from the bottom of the car.

Bust your NUTS with PB Blaster, in all seriousness.... this stuff rocks if you don't have it already GET SOME. Works a thousand times better than WD-40 or any of the other lithium based stuff you can buy. They even carry it at Wal-Mart now.
About the bolt in question, I'm trying to rack my brain, there are a couple of bolts that are extremely hard to get to and very time consuming taking them off. I use the ratchet wrenches with the flex head, but you can use regular wrenches and make small turns (if I remember correctly) very tedious.

finally!!! its out!the bolt that looked like it was in backwards was just for lineing it up i guess even though it had threads because once i got all the bolts loosend it slid over it.thanks for all the help guys. now is their anything that i should know before putting the new trans in that my haynes manual might not tell me?

i got another querstion. the transmision needed to be replaced anyway but the reason i finally decided to do it was because my slave cylinder went bad so i replaced it and the clutch pedal still has no feel. when you push it to the floor it kind of feels like its grinding and then it just stays on the floor. my manual said it could be the fork shaft binding or broken realese bearing. the fork looks fine and im guessing the realese bearing is the part that the fork pushes that spins, which also looks fine. what else could it be before i put the whole thing back together and it still dosnt work.

A word of advice to anyone removing their transmission or pulling their engine out on this whole bellhousing bolts mess... Listen...
Remove the upper intake manifold/throttle body assembly. I'm so serious. It's not hard, and there are a lot of you that haven't even replaced your pulsation dampeners or used a banjo bolt in place of them...a lot of you haven't cleaned your grounds, replaces your vacuum lines, checked your injector O-rings, etc, etc... Just. Do. It. Those bellhousing bolts then become the easiest things in the world to remove, and at the same time you are able to access and inspect/replace tired bits of your fuel, intake, vacuum, etc systems..

Believe me, I know. I've been doing this since I was 15 years old and I'm only 19 now and Starbucks doesn't pay ****. You have to sacrifice a lot to own these cars, or any car at all actually.

Don't discourage him with a pre-conceived idea that he can't make it happen..
All he needs is a buddy to help him.
With the car on FOUR jackstands, be sure you have enough room to slide the transmission under the car and balance it carefully on a jack with a transmission adapter or a wide plate. Have the stronger of you to remain under the car... help the friend supporting the transmission lay under the transmission tunnel in such a way that the transmission is more or less resting on his chest to allow him to bench press it upwards. Then, the friend or you...whoever isn't supporting the gearbox, needs to push on the motor so that it tilts backwards ... be careful about the alignment of the transmission's input shaft as to not damage your clutch.
It may require some wiggling or spinning the transmission a bit in gear to align the splines properly, but you can do it man.

i just cant get the damn input shaft to go in. im balancing the trans on the jack while my friend jacks it up but the back while the shifter go keeps hitting before it gets high enough to line up. its kinda hard to move it around on the too because my friends only 13 and i just got surgery on my elbow and am not suppose to be using it at all.(ive way over done it already but i cant phisically pick it up like i could if my elbow wasnt fucked up.

Come on guys, why blast someone for where they work...ATLEAST THEY ARE WORKING, even if its pulling weeks, digging ditches, sanitation engineer, WHO CARES! When you are putting the tranny back in, either turn the drive shaft flange on the end of the transmission or turn the engine while your pushing the tranny towards the engine. This will help get the splines to line up to slide it it. I drove a '69 Ford truck when I was 16, so I remember the nickel and diming yourself to death part. I still have the truck 17 yrs later and learned a lot. Keep up the work and don't give up. Also, if you put in a new slave cylinder, don't forget to bleed it or yes, your peddle will not return. PM me your email address and I'll email you something very helpful for your repairs.

You need to have someone push the engine back towards the rear of the car as far is it will go and hold it there while you push the tranny on.. The engine is at a messed up angle.
