remove the drive shaft bolts from the differential - then pull it out.
take off the starter
remove the stick assembly
take off all the bolts holding it to the engine, and the slave cylinder for the clutch
disconnect all the wires between the harness and the tranny
get a jack under the tranny and take off the mount bolts (4 of them), then lower the tranny. I think thats all.

Yeah its actuallly pretty simple but do bear in mind that you must put back the driveshaft as you took it out. So mark it with a crayon or something the original location that it was. THis ensures that everything is well balanced. I know the engines have a guide bolt on top of the engine (my 87 gxl does) Make sure its in place first and put the nut on it. If its not in place and your tightening the lower bolts from tranny to engine your going to have a gap and gotta do it over.

Gotta tilt the engine a lil back while throwing on the tranny this helps it go in much easier. But besides that its pretty simple. If you have any questions contact me ive taken out my tranny 4 times in less than a year lol

There should be a flat spot on the case of the tranny...the part with the gears. NOT the bellhousing. The heaviest part is the part where the shifter goes down through, that connects your shift forks and linkages to the the shafts/gears in your transmission.

Also remember to mark where which bellhousing bolts go where.

I forget what the wires are for, get a FSM and check out the wiring diagrams for the transmission. There's links for FSM's all over this site.

Good luck.

The Search button has 99% of questions asked. 10% of those can be found in the Stickies, FSM, and Archives.

The other 1% are unique questions that should be praised!
