Removing the thermostat
What are the pros/cons of leaving out the thermostat? I know they do this for racing but its bad for the street because of the slow warm-up, is there a way to circumvent this?

The thermostat is there to bring the engine up to operating temp as quickly as possible and then maintain a relatively constant temp regardless of cooling load and outside conditions. This minimises fuel usage (from enrichment when cold) and reduces engine wear, and keeps the engine running at its most efficient temperature. It also slows the coolant flow to a speed that maximises cooling capacity. There are no pros to removing the thermostat. A properly working thermostat won't be the cause of cooling problems (if that's why you're asking).

The RX-7 thermostat has a spring loaded disc that closes a bypass port in the pump housing. If you must remove the stat, then you must cork that port and tighten the belts to handle the pump resistance at high revs. Or leave the bypass port open and install a bigger radiator to keep it cool.

Yo Poppinrex7, Next time you get a chance, have a good look inside your pump housing. It looks like, with no stat, around 20-30% of the outlet flow goes right back to the block without seeing the radiator. Check it out..
