removing oil pan

anyone replaced their oil pan with thengine in car?

my oil pan is leaking from the front so i am goign to replace it, but i cant reach the bolts ont he front, and the powersteering rack and stuffs in the way and i think when i pull ti off, the oil pickup will bang on it? and then the mounts are also in teh way

how do you guys replace your oil pan?

i think im jjust going to use only rtv too, the oil pan gaskets probably what makes me leak oil :/

You have to take off one of the engine mounts as it bolts onto the engine from the bottom of the pan. I know some of the bolts are a bitch, but you should be able to get to all of them from the bottom. You should be able to manuever the pan so that it doesn't catch on the pickup. Also, I definately reccommend only using rtv to seal the pan.

2a+RoN would you reccomend just using RTV if your installing a baffle? i'm buying one soon and was wondering about this

You will need some way to support the engine up when you remove the passenger side motor mount. If you dont own, cant rent a shop crane to support the engine from above, you might be able to get away with supporting the passenger-most side of the transmission. Best of luck on that

first off, thank you for all the replies
got a crane, so its not a problem.
im just a bti hesitant cause it seems hard to reach the bolts

i am kinda angry too because i had the engine out, but i was stupid and put the oil pan gasket on, which is making everything as wet as a girl that just touched frankie muniz's hand

to reach the front oil pan bolts closest to the rack and pinio, i just used a big extension a small 10mm socket and a swivle on the end and it made it so much easier than what i was doing at first, to make them easier to reach, jack the engine up and it should give you just enough room to get to them

I support the engine with a jack on the tranny. Lossen both motor mounts and the tranny mount. Raise the engine and tranny with the jack to reach the front bolts. A 3/8ths rachet and short socket will easily fit in with the engine lifted. I also recommend using an oil pan gasket with the RTV. I would use 2 gaskets and RTV when installing a baffle.

So if you were to use this, im guessing you'd use a block of wood and just seat it underneath the flattest part of the tranny, closest to the flywheel? I have a hydraulic jack that pushes just straight up, good for about 2 tons. The only way it will fit under the car is if you jack it up with a floor jack.
Would it be safe to do this with jackstands underneath the crossmember? if you use the jackstands, would the angle be too steep and the jack holding the tranny will slip out?

I think the biggest thing that im afraid of if I do this, is if the tranny slips off of the jack, and also if there will be too much pressure on that point of the tranny, bending in the case...

If you do any type of spirited driving I would add a baffle plate while you are under there.
