Removing excess weight from hood...?

Okay, I'm planning on some minor lightening of my car, but I do not have sufficient funds. I'd like to know if there is any way I can remove some of the supports from my hood, and the weight attached, without sacrificing *too much* structural integrity. Personally, I've got no problem using hood pins, as long as they actually work, and aren't there for looks. One day, I plan on taking my monster to the track, and the only way you can start is through simple things like this.

Thanks.

just go to a bone yard and check for the aluminum version of your hood. Steely's are to heavy.

Are there any in particular that will have an aluminum hood? Or is it just random? AND all the yards around here have FBs, except for one, and the hood looks MIA.

Verts and GTUs models will have aluminum hoods. As far as the other non turbos, it is hit and miss. But look for 86 and 87 models with auto trannies (including base strippy models) or 86 and early 87 2+2 models, as the aluminum hoods tended to be more common on those.

And there is no steel you can remove from the non turbo steel hoods and have it retain structural integrity.

DO NOT remove any material from the hood, other than the insulation, if you plan on driving the car on the street. it's just dangerous and you will save more weight putting $20 less fuel in the tank.

the aluminum hood is definetly the way to go, or you could also get a carbon fibre hood.
it's easy to tell an aluminum from a steel by just lifting with your hand.
