Remote mounting sending unit for aftermarket gauge.

1.
I am installing a autometer oil pressure gauge on my 88.
The problem is the sending unit cant fit in the tight space the stock sending unit fits in.

I believe I need a braided steel line with the proper fittings on each end. That way I could remote locate the sending unit. Is this correct?

Also where can I get this kind of line and the proper fittings?

2.
I am also installing a autometer water temp gauge. The sending unit included with my gauge is to big (larger than the stock hole) to fit in the stock area.

Do I have to use the aftermaket sender. Would using the stock sender mess things up?

Thanks,
Steve

Are they electric gauges?

I have an autometer electric oil pressure gauge, and the sending unit was a PITA. The thread of the sending unit is 1/8 NPT, but the thread of the block is not. You need to go to a hydrolics shop and get a 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSPT adaptor. This little thing will let you screw the sender into the stock location.

As for the water gauge, many people drill and tap a whole in the thermostat housing. There has been some recent threads about mounting the sending unit from a water temp gauge. There were some pics too. I'll see if I can find the thread....

Thanks Nick, BIG help.

So keeping the stock water temp sending unit and tapping the thermo housing for the aftermarket is the way to go?
