Regular 3 pnt belts in an s5?
I'm strongly considering buying a 1989 gxl since my 1987 se has zero compression in the rear. I know that the s5 seat belts were recalled, but the one that I am about to buy still has the electric seat belts.
I am wondering if dealerships will convert it to a standard 3 pnt, or w/ my parts car how many motors and switches I would need to change to completely take out the stock s5 system.
By the way, I bet that this has been asked a bajillion times. Searching isn't as fun as it is to get live advice.
Thanks to all,
Sar

I'm considering selling the 87 se for approx what I put into her to get the fuel system functioning... that or I'll try to find some spare time and have fun taking the engine and rebuillding it.

I know that all Canadian FC's have manual belts. There will probably be some issues with interior panels (need a hole in the B pilliar, no need for the slider slot etc. It is definately possible to do this as all the mounts should be there. The best solution would be to get a Canadian S5 parts car with the same interior and get all the pieces from that, or an American S4 and get the parts from it (I don't know if the interior colors will match). Or you could just modify the stock interior and live with it. For the mechanics/electrics of the automatic belts you could probably just remove the whole assembly off the doors and reomove the fuse and call it a day. But I've never done it so I don't know first hand.
