Rebuilt T2 motor with BNR stage 2 turbo

Hey guys I have the opportunity to buy a newly rebuilt t2 block <10k miles and a bnr stage 2 turbo.

I am not sure whats on the motor yet, but I was wondering what needs to be done to make it reliable. These turbos can make the engine push 300whp/260wtq easily

I was thinking of keeping the stock tmic. What would be needed besides a new ecu+tune and injectors?

I would upgrade to an fmic for a denser charge (imo), besides that, I would ad:

1. 250-320 fuel pump
2. Fpr
3. SS oil cooler hoses
4. Exedy Fly Wheel / Clutch combo
5. Silicon; vacuum, fuel, radiator hoses
6. Custom turbo manifold (stock units crack after a while)

That's all I can think of for now.

Would the engine be reliable with this much power?

I was thinking of swapping the racing beat oil cooler lines from my S4 on the S5

I would start with the basics and work your way from there.
  • Oil, filters (oil, fuel, air), spark plugs.
  • Clean or new injectors. I've sent a set to RC engineering.
  • Check for oil leaks. Replace gaskets, lines, crush washers where necessary.
  • Possibly replace your omp lines and rebuild your omp. Pineapple racing sells a kit to rebuild the omp. Karack (now rotary evolution) sells stainless omp lines. I also have a set I'm not using and would sell. Or you could premix like me.
  • I've had numerous issues with FC's relating to poor wiring. Save yourself the trouble and just redo the damn engine harness if it shows any sign of needing repair. You will thank me later.
  • Engine management due to the bnr turbo. This would include a stand alone ecu and wide band O2 sensor. If you use the power fc ecu, you need the banzai kit if its not the ap engineering model for fc, and a datalogit to hook it up to the computer.
  • Buy another car.

Yes your engine will be reliable as long as you tune the engine properly and don't push it hard all the time.

if i use the stock top mount at 11psi and the car makes 270whp and 230wtq would it be ok?

Also could the stock t2 clutch worth for that much power?

As for fuel, how does a new pump, injectors, fpr, and mpd sound?

You're gonna need a stronger clutch... speaking from experience. Even the most basic Exedy Stage 1HD will work. Stock will not.

That's what I got, amazon 10803ahd $380 shipped. I'm using a stock s5 Turbo and wanted something better than stock.

at what power level is a upgraded or aftermarket fuel pressure regulator required?

I ask because I'm running a BNR stg 2-ish turbo with FD fuel pump and ID 1000 primary and secondaries. going to put down between 300-350 whp

As other members advised, upgrade your clutch kit, and a lightweight flywheel would also be nice if you do not mind revving a little from dead stops.

I am not too sure if a tmic will handle that amount of whp, it is possible. But It would be better to upgrade to an fmic, which will handle it with ease, or you can opt for an ARC TMIC.

Your planned fuel upgrades are good, but be sure to run a stand alone that uses higher voltage for the upgraded fuel injectors. Stock ecu's can only supply enough power for stock fuel injectors. And a stand alone will allow you to properly tune said parts and get you to 270whp w/ 230wtq.

that's a good start for power and torque, sounds like a very fun and street power band.
