Lightbulb Rebuild or TII motor?

I have an 87 base model N/A FC.

I bought it and it cranks but doesnt run.

Anyways, it's got 200,000 miles and the guy that had it had it sitting in storage for a year and he says it ran before.

Me and my dad decided on 2 things: Rebuild and Race or street port or 800$ for a complete tII motor and tranny.

Which do u reccomend? how much is a usual ebuild and port? Is it worth a rebuild if it has 200,000 miles? Or am i better off getting a new motor?

Go turbo, friends dont let friends drive N/A ... and $800 is a great price for a turbo motor and tranny.

Do the swap. $800 is a great price for engine/tranny. Just make sure you get the wiring harness and ECU. You'll need the TII rear end too.

Just to let you know, the motor and tranny alone won't cut it.

it's the best way to go but you don't need it. a driveshaft from an automatic will bridge the gap from turbo tranny to NA rear.

u realise, ull be rebuilding that old tII engine in no time anyway.. plus the cost of new engine management or a dodgy wiring system if you use the original turbo ecu...

Then ull wanna upgrade the turbo, run more boost, install a big intercooler and go faster... then ull blow the NA diff. And once uve replaced all this stuff ull be wondering why you didnt just rebuild the NA engine and have been happy.

Nah I'll be happy with 205hp...

My dad wants to go get an S5 engine w/ 160hp then port it and run it in SCCA b/c he says if we go turbo, we might have to compete in a higher more harder class.

First of all, if it ran, was put in storage, now doesn't run, it's probably just sticky apex seals. Don't pull the motor, just run some ATF through to hopefully break up some of the carbon that might be causing low/no compression.

Of course, check for fuel, spark.

The TII deal doesn't sound bad but you need to get all the stuff together first and figure out exactly what you are going to do.. might as well get the thing running and drivable so you can enjoy it.

If you put port the n/a you are goign to be running in street prepared or prepared class in scca. If you put the turbo in you are running B-stock otherwise with just the stock engine your in e-stock.

If the plugs are always wet it's probably a VERY bad flooding and some of the carbon lock as well. It shouldn't be too hard to fix, what you want to do is take out the lower (i think) spark plugs and hold the throttle all the way down and crank it. you should take out a fuse too but I can't remember which one. You'll probably see gas and fumes spurting out. Once that's all out, put some ATF (automatic transmission fluid) in the open plug holes, just a small amount, and the plug it back up and crank it.

for the wet spark plug problem, you are supposed to take the plugs out and pull the Fuel Injector plug under the hood, and crank it a FEW tiems, this will push out any excess fuel, but you probably have a leaky injector, this happens with the S4's I know cause i have owned 3 of them so far. You can install a fuel cut swutch, or replace the injectors, whichever suits you best. As for the ATF, You remove the lower plugs and put about a few table spoons of auto tranny fluid in each one, after that you want to let it sit over night or even for a day, to let it break up the carbon. Then before you start it, you remove the catalytic converter, and crank that baby up. She will smoke really freakin' bad, but let her run till there is no more smoke coming out. then replace catalytic converter, and you will probably need a new set of plugs after that cause the ATF treatment fouls the hell outta plugs. There ya go, that should help fix your problem. Hope that helped.
