I got the motor back from Kevin today and will put it back in the car in the next few weeks. He was able to re-use all the hard parts but a few corner seal springs, which were flattened on one rotor – odd.

So here is the build:
Street port 6-port as much as possible, no bridge or halfbridge. Motor already had a minor 5/6 port job
RB light steel flywheel and auto counterweight
Re-install Centerforce dual-friction clutch (looks great)
Jet-hot coated and port-matched RB uncollected ‘race’ header
Conversion to manual steering with manual rack. I have a smallish Momo steering wheel and want to keep the mechanical advantage the factory manual rack provides
Remove ac
Keep stock air pump activating 5/6 ports. I looked into alternatives but none seem robust or reliable.
Atkins 5/6 port inserts
Relocate battery or at minimum, replace with lightweight battery
Solid motor and tranny mounts
Possibly remove 2nd butterflies in the TB. Still on the fence about this.
All other ‘emissions’ and such (rats nest, BAC, etc) will stay
All hoses to be Silicon
Poor-man’s Evans’ 100% glycol
Mishimoto ‘racing’ thermostat

Really looking forward to this. I’ll get it together & running, then back to Rotary Performance for a tune on the new porting. I hope this will be a solid, reliable powerful (for a 6port na) build.

Kevin grinds out the exhaust port 'noise reducers'

He originally built this motor for the car's p.o. using 3rd gen housings

was curious if other builders are still porting n/a motors while leaving those sleeves in. if so it would be a waste.

Maybe its just the picture, but it looks like the iron where the coolant seal failed may have been compromised(slightly pushed out).

Sorry, that was meant as a response to Karack, showing the same piece of iron being pried on and giving way.

my bad - broke iron, able to re-use the apex seals, oil seals etc.
Motor is in my garage waiting to go back into the car

Since all the apex seals etc were re-used it'll have little or no 'break-in' - should be able to build good compression right away and get back to the track pretty quick.

I went ahead and bought one of those mishimoto 'racing' t-stats as well. Interested if it'll make a good difference.

well the iron may have been replaced but just not listed here or forgotten that it was a failed part that was replaced during the build. the picture just looks too strange, especially with the heat from the blown seal going directly to that spot on the iron.

i know i've said it before but the irons just do not like much additional heat when they have been heat cycled 10s of thousands of times.

Aaaand - motor is in. So much room in there I'll just stand in the engine bay and wrench eveything else on. It was some effort but not bad to wrestle the engine back onto the trans.

One issue was the Evilbay solid motor mounts don't fit. Bolts are too large diameter, and I'm not willing to grind out the mounts and frame to make it fit. So the Mazda Comp mounts went back in.

Header, Atkins inserts, OMP lines going on. I'm going slow, cleaning and ispecting everything twice before it goes on. Don't want to ahve to take this thing apart again for a while. That is the

RB uncollected 'race' heared, Jet Hot coated, and I smoothed out the inlet a bit to try to help smooth exhaust gas flow
