I'm alright with listening to you guys but my dad won't let me take my car anywhere until I get information from a reputable source. I have to call Atkins tomorrow and some guy that races RX7's with me in SCCA. His name is Mike Van Steenberg from ISC racing. That's the guy that rebuilt my transmission and he builds motors all week long. Anyways, thanks for your help guys.

I know what Ted is saying. As a consistent rebuilder myself who does this on a dialy basis, I can tell you that a nice tight rebuild often fires right up (if you dont have other problems) and even possibly may idle decent. Any engine with used housings will not be so great to begin with.

I go with used housings in almost all the engines I build. True, this is not as good as new housings, but I cover the segment of the market otherwise left open, between $2000+ engines and junkyard POS motors, so in my view used housing engines are okay so long as you know what to expect.

Atkins claims to use new housings in engines, however I have heard that they often use old ones as well, while still charging for new ones.

That's what the fuel pump switch is for.

There are two ways to do it. If the engine floods when you start it, turn the pump off, hold the gas pedal down and crank for ~5 seconds to clear it out, then turn the pump on while still cranking. It should fire up.

If that doesn't work reliably and/or if it's flooding every time you start it, then shut the motor off by turning the pump off and letting the motor stall before switching off the ignition. When you restart it, turn the ignition on and crank it over for a few seconds to build compression, then turn the fuel pump on. It should start right up.
