Rebuild Costs

When people give quotes on rebuilds, does that include the labor of taking the engine out of the car and putting it back in the car?

It depends. On websites like atkins, mazdatrix, or rx7.com, no it is just for rebuilding the engine. If you actually do down to a shop and get a quote it is usually with installation, etc. So figure it is only for the rebuild unless otherwise stated.

Oh, just noticed you were in Houston. Rotary Performance (rx7.com) is based in Garland, which isnt a terrible drive from Houston. I have heard they do excellent work, but last time I talked to them (several years ago) they told me they only worked on 3rd gens. Alamo Rotary in San Antonio did a good job on my rebuild, but it wasn't cheap. For the love of God, don't go to Pro Tech in Austin. They fucked me over big time. Anyway, those are the places I know about in Texas. I know Gotham racing in Dallas is highly regarded, and I have heard of Alamo Racing in Dallas, but don't know anything about them. I think theres another rotary place in Austin, but no idea of the name. I would think that there would be rotary place in Houston, but no idea. Honestly, though, its worth driving for a good quality rebuild. Do go anywhere unless you talk to several people that have had good experiences with them. Check out the good guy/bad guy section, and go to the BBB site and see if there were any complaints filed with them.
Also, if you can pull the motor yourself, you'll get a much better deal. They usually charge a good bit for the pulling the motor and reinstalling it. Ask about all details of pricing and ask for detailed notes on parts you get.

When I lived in TX, I took everything to Tito at Alamo Rotary. Good guy, knows his stuff.

Here in AZ, I'm having a rebuild done by www.turblown.net. Owner is a friend and does great work on all performance applications.

Niether are cheap.
