Rear wheels don't spin freely

I just took off both rear calipers, because one of them feels like its locked, and I go to turn the rear wheels (spinning the rotor with my hand) and there is a lot of resistance. I would have thought it would spin much more freely. The car is out of gear. Is my differential bad? How else can I test to see if the pumpkin is bad? (87 n/a gxl btw)

Well that car has an LSD in 5spd form so I would guess it may have welded itself together.

sounds stupid,

but is you hand brake adjusted too tight?

That can make your rear wheel(s) hard to turn (with hand brake all the way down)

you can loosen the adjustment by turning the hex screw ccw at the hand brake lever

I adjusted the handbrake tighter, and it still wouldn't hold the car on a hill, like I said, currently the handbrake is all the way off, and the calipers are removed.

How do you check the wheel bearings? They do not make execessive noise right now.

Are both wheels off the ground?? If only one wheel it is the drag from the LSD you might be feeling.

The rears will never spin like the front a/c the spiders etc. in the rear. Check both rear wheels while suspended and see if resistance the same on both sides. Normally rear wheel bearings are checked by moving wheel in and out to see if any play.
