rear wheel bearings ?
How do I go about checking them? It's not really specific in the FSM except on changing them. I have a slight thumping noise coming from the rear end I'm still trying to identify. I had the tires balanced and rotated to different locations with no noticable change in the noise position. I'm 90% sure the driveshaft is fine since having it out working on the tranny. It's been doing this for a couple months now and it's beginning to bother me a little. Any suggestions? Other locations/items to check?

Sound like gravel when you spun the wheels? I'll be checking this tomorrow up on the jacks but I'd like to know what to look for specifically. Also, out of curiousity, how much are the bearings and do I have to get them at the dealership?

A bad bearing can be heard while driving or going over slight bumps and as someone said, when it's up and you turn the wheel, it'll make a grinding sound or when you grab the wheel, you can tilt it slightly and it's not tight.
When you said "thump" , it doesn't sound like a bearing. Does it do that from a stand still? If yes, it may be the rear differential mount.
