Rear License Plate Screw Thread Pitch

So I searched the forums and even contacted the local Mazda dealer (who, surprise surprise, were not helpful) and I can't seem to figure out what screws to use here.

I use #10 x 3/4" hex head screws to secure my plate. But when i got it there were short lag bolts in it.

m6x1.0.. its a bolt, people screw this one up all the time.
