Really wierd flooding issue.

Ok, so I found this car for sale in St. Louis. It's an 1989 S5 N/A.

The guy selling it says that it's flooded to hell, and h could not get it to start.
The car supposedly has 189,000miles on the odometer, and the guy put in a newer motor from a pristine rolled FC that only had 70,000 miles on it. The swap was an S5 to S5 swap, (both 89's.)

He said that one day, while giving a potential buyer a test drive, the car just sputtered to a halt. He says that he changed fuel filter, an put in new plugs, tried the EGI fuse issue, and tha car cranks over quite healthy, just does not start.

This all happened just this saturday by the way.

EDIT: I searched, but this is a really wierd one. The only thing the guy has not one yet was checking the compression, but he doesnt think the engine blew. I think the injectors are clogged or something, myself, and maybe the car isnt getting fuel to the motor?

Also, he says that he mamaged to get it started, then got it back to the house and it died again in the driveway. I am really worried about ba compression on this motor...

I also thought fuel pump, but since then you've added that he got it to start again. Someone needs to go over the car methodically, and not just throw parts at it. Could be an intermittent electrical problem with the fuel system, or could even be something else.

I'd definitely check compression though, since it's easy to do and count out if fine. Then I'd check for spark at all plugs, just to rule out ignition. Then jumper the fuel plug with ignition on to make sure the fuel pump runs fine, etc.

Ask him if the check engine light is on and if so check the code. This could tell you a lot. Also, ask him how it ran when he got it to start to get it home. Mostly looking for was it ok just a little rough or very rough, possibly running on only one rotor.

Well, I helped the guy, and he found that it's a fuel problem.

two things:

1) It's good that the car is fixed.

2) He relisted it for $2500.... ****.

I was really hoping for this one...
