Exclamation Radio Install, wiring questions (read sticky also)

Hey everyone. Im putting a new cd player in my 1990 GTUs I wasnt very impressed with the one in there when I bought it and after getting in there it seems that the factory harness is gone and I have no clue what anything is. I read the sticky and it says this

What are the wire colors for adding aftermarket radio
LTBlue/Red= 12v+
LtBlue/White= +Accessory

LtBlue/Yellow= -power ant trigger??
Red/Black=+ Lumination
White=Factory Amp Turn on ??

Ground to the body, use the 10mm bolt behind the center console front drivers access panel. Do not use the Red/Black as ground it will damage the interior light circuit and dimmer in the car

Front Speakers (maximum of a 15 watt peak from the radio):
LtGreen/Red= Left
LtGreen/Black= Left

LtGreen= Right
LtGreen/Yellow=Right

Rear Speakers (if applicable, if you have the amplified rear speakers again the Maximum of 15 watts peak is all the stock speaker amp input can handle):
Brown= Left rear
Brown/White= Left Rear

LtBlue= Right Rear
LtBlue/Orange=Right Rear

####So far the ones I have been able to locate I have placed in bold text

the rest of the wires I can not tell what they are. Can someone please tell me what these are:

lt green/blue
lt green/red
**(i think these may be the left front speakers but im not sure, there is the blue line instead of the black line, If so in which manner should they be connected to the wires that came with my cd player?)

yellow/green
yellow/blue
**(These may be the other front speakers but I am still not sure)

lt blue/black

lt blue/yellow

brown/red

Thanks for the help

why not just re-wire the stereo system?

unless you're going to be using the stock speakers and such with no amplifier
if you're going to add in extra speakers and amplify them just re-wire it all

also...the power antenna trigger is used for when you turn your radio on, the power antenna will move up...useless if you only listen to cds/mp3s, etc.

just bypass the factory amp...

if you can't figure out the fronts because the wiring is different, you could always run new wire for the stereo system...

i'm going to be doing it in a week or two on my S4, aftermarket fronts and rears, and amplified 6x9's on the rear bins, i'll take pics if you want

good luck, sorry i couldn't help too much...someone will come in and save the day, i'm sure

ok I found all the speaker wires by taking out each speaker and looking at them, and now I have completed everything except for the power antenna and the factory amp wires....and im having trouble figuring out which is which. Do I not need to wire up the factory amp is that what I am hearing? Im gonna head back out there and see what i can come up with.

Thanks

**I dont have the time or materials right now to re-wire everything. It is a good idea though, perhaps I will do it another day

Well...you said yourself in the first post:

What are the wire colors for adding aftermarket radio
LTBlue/Red= 12v+
LtBlue/White= +Accessory
LtBlue/Yellow= -power ant trigger??
Red/Black=+ Lumination
White=Factory Amp Turn on ??
and you have ?? next to LtBlue/Yellow for the power antenna...but then you have:

the rest of the wires I can not tell what they are. Can someone please tell me what these are:

lt green/blue
lt green/red
**(i think these may be the left front speakers but im not sure, there is the blue line instead of the black line, If so in which manner should they be connected to the wires that came with my cd player?)

yellow/green
yellow/blue
**(These may be the other front speakers but I am still not sure)

lt blue/black

lt blue/yellow

brown/red
where LtBlue/Yellow is one of the wires that you havent figured out yet.

That LtBlue/Yellow that you havent figured out yet IS the antenna wire.

So all you have now to figure out is the amp.

You should be bypassing the amps, not running through them. You should also be referring to the wiring diagrams. They're in the Body Electrical chapter of the S5 FSM.

You need to wire the antenna trigger through a relay like this:

It really is easier to just rewire the system speaker wise.

1. Home depot (14 gauge stereo wire) ! 50ft <$20
2. remove door panels, speaker covers, splash plates (whatever at edge of door)
3. feed wire through small holes and/or under carpet
4. Attach (solder) to aftermarket speakers
5. Attach wires respectively to head unit (i recomend multi color electrical tape for keeping track)

I have not connected the antenna or antenna control up on my head unit.

For ground I used the stock ground (if you don't realize it, its those lower screw holes for the whole radio assembly. I just used a ring connector to do this.

My Lumination doesnt work, I don't know why, but it doesnt bother me.
