Why would my sony headunit get power for a second and then cut off again a second later when the key is off...?
It's weird...like it's possessed.. If I hold the off button on the radio it turns off and I come back and the battery isn't drained. I'm not too worried about it.
Oh my dome light won't come on when I open the doors either...weird eh?

Does the faceplate just light up or does the unit also produce sound with the key to off. My Sony does the same thing so I remove the faceplate when the unit is not in use. If it just lights up I would say the problem lies within the unit itself as opposed to it being an external wiring problem.

instead of explaining what happens to my car, ill just link the thread to whats going on with it. see if its related or acting up similar to mine. hailers stepped in and gave some advice you might wanna check out.

the only thing that happens when your battery is old is it dies a good electrical system doesnt just weird out cuz it has an old battery
+1 for faceplate anti theft warning most new radios do this .
Taken from the FAQ
What are the wire colors for adding aftermarket radio
LTBlue/Red= 12v+
LtBlue/White= +Accessory
LtBlue/Yellow= -power ant trigger
Red/Black=+ Lumination
White=Factory Amp Turn on
Ground to the body, use the 10mm bolt behind the center console front drivers access panel. Do not use the Red/Black as ground it will damage the interior light circuit and dimmer in the car

its more then likely the above
but if its when you turn the car off and not when you turn it on, and its kind of like a power down beep, or a chirp then it might just be the radio basically telling you that its turning off. some radios just do that. my old Sony radio did it. (think it was a Sony)
edit
didnt know that the beep was the anti-theft warning that the faceplate is still in.
