Radio on Antenna down Radio off Antenna up
im confused when i got my new pioneer radio installed in my 88 FC they guy at best buy said my car was messed up. he said when he turned on my radio my antenna went down and when he turned my radio off the antenna went up. i think some wires are crossed or something but i really dont care cause now i can listen to the radio while i going theough the car wash. and also i was thinking about taking out the antenna motor anyways because since it isnt working right and all i listen to are cd's whats the point of having the motor.

mazda is the only manufacturer I know of who uses a NEGATIVE signal to put their antenna up. Every other manufacturer uses a positive signal to tell it to go up, thats why it is reversed. You need to send a - signal, not +!!! (get a relay)

There are a couple of diodes in the antenna motor, that if shorted, could allow the 20A audio fused circuit to power the motor, but I don't think that's your problem...
There should be a blue/yellow wire from the radio unit going to the antenna, if you want to check that out...Maybe the guy just crossed some wires, or the harness adapter he used (if any) is wrong...

The stock radio sent a negative signal.
I forget where but I read a BIG article on this awhile back. The stock deck sent a neg signal but all modern decks send a positive one. You need to install a relay so that the + signal sends a - to the antenna.
maybe its a ground and not a negative. im not 100% sure on it, but I know thats the reason its going backwards.

And Jono- yeah, that's what you're trying to say, you're just saying it differently.
Installing a relay to provide a simple ground via its contacts (using the decks power signal for the relay coil) would do it...

I didn't even bother to put an antenna back in my car when I did the body work. Actually, the other day I was trying to show someone where the antenna was on the 7, but I couldn't remember.. Apparently I did a pretty good job with that section of body, too, as I couldn't tell my from my work
Screw the radio, it sucks anymore
On a completely unrelated note, rx7b13, I love your sig picture

nuff said, it works on a neg polarity. you need a relay to make your antena go up/down the correct way...
